I've spoken before about having a friend and her sister who were taken out of the UK and married at 13 and 14. This article shows that this practise is still alive and kicking and girls are being advised to hide spoons to set off airport alarms.
Surely more can be done to protect these girls and stronger penalties should be introduced for those involved in forcing them to marraige. This is no better than trafficking.

Forced Marriage is very wrong
Yes it is but when its the parents arranging these marriages these poor girls don't stand a hope in hell - which is exactly what their parents are condemning them to.

Those poor girls are basically sold into slavery, including sexual, by their own families - absolutely sickening?

Forced Marriage is very wrong
Is it?
Obviously there needs to be more that should be done, but it's normally quite hard to deal with Paedophile rings for numerous reasons.

The country these girls live in is the UK. They are taken from the UK and married abroad then return with a much older husband in tow. Girls as young as 13 and 14.

Im sorry but im re posting this again...sorry lt..
Those words have really resonated with me.
...it’s very sad that these forced things do happen..for me I guess..it’s a reason also for supporting immigration and multiculture...because in having to make the journey, this advice can be given which may prevent a few unhappy lives...?...rather than it all happen ‘within a country and within a culture’...and nothing be able to help in any way to try to prevent, which would be much more frustrating...even if it’s only effective for a few, then a few is at least something...

Except we are talking about British girls who live and were born here.
Some of the things my friend said to me after being taken out of the UK, out of London where we lived and married at 14 were horrible. They have never left memory. We are talking regular sexual assault (rape) on a girl of 14, sleep deprivation, violence. This was her school summer holidays at 14.

Have you ever read the book SOLD - one woman’s true account of modern slavery by Zana Muhsen - a very good read. Quite old now but very moving. This is the belief system we are letting into our country and allowing to run rampant. Should we not protect these poor girls rather than pander to a religion that practices it from within the confines of an advanced, modern and safe country such as Britain

I don't think this is a topic that should be joked about, tbh. So many men (and some women, but mainly men) make jokes, or minimalize this stuff, and anything to do with abuse of women/girls too actually.

Well I apologize if it came off that way.
I do personally think though that we do need some cheering up on this section of the Forum sometimes.
And on the topic I do think that it's gonna be hard to implement a decent idea to stop paedophile rings, I honestly don't know if this idea is gonna work tbh.

I know you won't have meant it like that :p
And I also know you tend to make controversial jokes a lot.
But yeah, IDK I am just pretty annoyed today to start with, so apologies

There's no need to apologize, I know that I can rub people up the wrong way quite alot so the problem is more on my end.

The problem Mock isn't paedophile rings in forced marriage. It's parents. My friend was put in that position by her mother and her uncles.
And it really isn't funny. She used to talk of waking in the night with him on her and say when will it end. She hated it. I don't find her suffering funny, or the fact that this is still happening to other girls to the point where they are advised to hide spoons in their underwear at school if being taken on flights to be married, more than 25 years later. Though the reality in many cases is they don't even know until they get there.

I do wonder why parents would want their Daughter to go through that? Because no decent parents would put their child through such a traumatic situation.
And I'm sorry about your friend Jaxie, how did she escape the guy's clutches if you don't mind me asking?

it is wrong, but in some cultures it is just tradition

wasn’t there a storyline like this in coronation stret a few months ago
The problem of course now is that having publicised this in a daily newspaper, word will have gotten round the community to check for metal objects before the girls go to the airport. If parents are prepared to do this, there really isn't much hope for the child's long term future unless she is separated from them and I can see a storm brewing if that's tried

I don't understand why parents would do it either. It seems mostly to be religious/cultural but in the case of my friend I suspect money may have been involved for the men getting to the UK. I have no proof of that just hints from things that were said at the time. My friend and her sister were the sacrifice for the family to cash in.
She disappeared from our estate about a year later, just after the same thing happened to her 13 year old sister. I don't know why but maybe with the second girl social services got a sniff. I only saw her again the once when we were both about 22 by chance at a station in London. She had 6 children by 22 and had put on a lot of weight. The man had long since abandoned her much to her relief. She looked 40.

I thought this too when I read it, the publicity will mean the girls will be searched before getting to the airport. I don't know what the answer is but I think far stronger penalties on those caught would help as a deterrent.
It is child abuse.

Well at least your friend is safe and sound and not in that horrible situation.
And how terrible of the family to favour money over their own child.
