how do you store your photos?

Okay so i have an iphone and am not overly tech savvy (at least with this). my phone storage and icloud storage is nearly full bc of photos. my photos on my phone normally automatically upload on icloud but idk how to get rid of them from my phoen without them disappearing from icloud? i was thinking of removing some photos from my icloud and keeping them on a memory stick or something? idk what to do with all my phtoos from the last 4 years please help!

also for some reason my phone now onlyu contains the 50 or so most recent photos I took, and the rest are only on icloud and idk why this happened?

I do what most dont and delete crap and duplicates and i dont take pictures of my self like a narcissistic montybank

i take lots of pics and then rationalise and edit. then they are catalogued and stored
