This is the moment a car park warden sparks outrage at a Tesco Express after slapping an ambulance with a ticket after it was left on a double yellow line.

The worker is confronted by a witness filming the incident before he has a row with the paramedic outside the shop entrance.

Other shoppers come to her aid and try to reason with the warden, who refuses to back down.

The astonishing confrontation ends with the paramedic saying to the warden 'If you ever need an ambulance...' before shrugging and walking away.

It prompted outrage on social media with even television presenter Nick Knowles admonishing the worker on Twitter.

The car park is part of a private retail park owned by London & Cambridge Properties who employ a third party to monitor parking.

The firm said it had no comment at this stage when contacted by MailOnline.
But uproar has broken out on social media, with several Twitter users backing the paramedic.

DIY SOS presenter Knowles also criticised Tesco over the incident and said the firm was 'abdicating its social responsibility' if it did not help solve the situation.

Addressing Tesco, he wrote on Twitter: 'So you don’t feel you can support an emergency services worker stopping at your store for water - not your problem?'

He added the supermarket was 'morally separating itself' from the problem by outsourcing its parking management.

When contacted by Tesco, who told him it did not own the car park and was not responsible for enforcing car park fines, he added: 'Could you please supply us with the name of the company so WE might ask them to be more supportive of ES workers?

'Will you be talking to the parking company to express your concerns? After all - every little helps? Or not?'

It is unknown exactly how much the fine was but typically private car park tickets are usually between £70 and £100.

The footage begins with a conversation between the man filming the incident and the warden, with the cameraman asking why the ambulance was ticketed when it was 'on call'.

The warden said: 'It's not on call. It's not on call. She was having lunch. Where are the sirens? It is parked up on a double yellow line.'

The cameraman replied: 'They don't use the sirens when they are parked up you idiot.'

same as giving ambulance/fire engines a ticket for driving through red lights when there is an emergency, same sort of silly scenario

The guy was correct to put the ticket on that ambulance. They were not on call and could have parked properly.

If she was just buying herself a drink as opposed to tending to a patient then technically he was correct in giving her a fine? Whether you should let her park there anyway for a few minutes because she’s doing a good job saving lives etc I guess is the issue. I’m such a painfully indecisive person that I could probably never give an answer. :laugh:

and would you not agree that it would be wise to stock up with water before they set off rather than go to a large supermarket to get a drink at the end of their shift?

They were lazy and did not want to walk, they thought their ambulance would grant them parking immunity, when not on call, it does not

yes ok i agree with you there, maybe they should've gone for 5 or 6 water bottles during their work, and then when the shift is over just to go to a bar i guess

People wouldn't expect a police officer to speed or run a red light just because they're in a police car so it's the same principle here I think, just because you're in an ambulance doesn't mean you can park illegaly unless it's absolutely necessary. Popping into Tesco for a bottle of water doesn't qualify

If this was a cop car people wouldnt defend it...the traffic warden did his job, the ambulance driver was in the wrong and should be suspended for her threats.

If you make an exception for one, you have to make an exception for all it seems to me the paramedic was abusing her postion and thinks she is not subject to the same rules as everyone else unless she was attending a medical emergency,she should have parked elsewhere the guy filming was an arse and saw an opportunity for a story

Anyway, these parking tickets from private companies are pretty much unenforceable. My dad has had a few and he just ignores them and **** all comes of it :shrug:
