CELEBRITY Big Brother has been axed after seven years on Channel 5.
Bosses have reported decided to end the show after the upcoming series over falling ratings.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "After months of discussions it has been decided to axe Celebrity Big Brother. Ratings have dropped for the past few series so it isn’t worth the hefty price tag."
Earlier this year Channel 5 began taking pitches for shows to replace the once hugely popular reality TV show.
Industry magazine Broadcast reports that if Big Brother and its celebrity version were to be cut – Channel 5 would be left with more than 110 hours of primetime TV to fill.
There is still an existing deal in place, which will ensure Big Brother this summer, followed by the celebrity version.

Seemed inevitable
We had to get confirmation either way before this series started, would've been a bit of a howl (well, not really) if a week after the civilian final they'd just gone 'yeah we're not coming back so bye'

Not surprised. There wasn’t really any life left in it and I’d rather see it go now (when it’s already a bit of a state) than carry on getting worse and worse.

Like how Britain's Next Top Model stopped on 9 before it was revived
It was long overdue tho, it needs to be off air for at least a decade before any talk of a revival occurs IMO!

Why would they keep the one that rates the lowest?
It rates lowest but CBB is probably 10x more money to run for 4 weeks as opposed to BB's 8 weeks due to around £1m-£2m for HMs.
Reportedly they are paying half a million to Stormy Daniels.... i mean perhaps it's a good idea to ditch CBB with all those stupid decisions. £500k!! bloody joking

I think we are underrestimating how much cash C5 have. Lets not pretend they are a poor homeless little channel. Thry have too much, it's reflected in their ridiculous fees for HMs.
I do believe the article and think BOTH will be cancelled, but it;s odd they didn't say "Big Brother", if it was both, they would have just said "Big Brother". But they said CBB, which is what throws me off/
I doubt BB's really been axed, she's probably just in a secret house next door

anyway this is like the 3rd (?) article Ed has release since January to say BB has been axed so we shall wait and see
If true, it is quite sad as they’ve showed that the effort could be made to improve the show and bring it back to its glorious self (even though they’re yet to do so enough for impact) but I doubt it’ll go anywhere if not just to another channel
My bet is they’ve axed summer CBB (as this article technically states) but kept the other 2 series per year for a new contract

Why would they keep the one that rates the lowest?
Because the housemates only get paid like £30 a day or something where as the celebs get paid up to a million per person for their stay.
Regular BB is relatively cheap bar the production costs...I just want another channel to pick it up now Channel 5 have run it into the ground.
Puts a bit of a dampener on the upcoming series mind, Channel 5 axe the show then people are expected to have faith in them putting on a decent series this summer?

its true that it could just be the sun trying to gain attention with a white lie... personal I think they wont deiced until half way through bbuk...
I though think it would be better on itv or itv2...
How i see it, i watch these channels for certain things:
- bbc is best for serious documentaries
- c4 is a mixture of family stuf, or aimed at people with kids..
- itv can vary...
- itv2 is more for the younger half of the population (or people who act like the younger half)... the young and fun who watch too much tv (like me! as i love family guy so i think i watch this channel the most)
- c5 is more about crime, violence, car chases, ancient and emergency stuff and dog recuse...
tbh i don't really know why c5 got in in the first place... I also have not watched bb in 5 years so a few months ago thought it was on either c4 or itv. alothough c5 do have blind date on there too... I dont know why they have that one on the either... maybe they dont want all the programs to be simila
I think itv2 should get it

It’s sad news if true but it’s not entirely unexpected tbh. The show and Channel 5 have had their heads buried in the sand creatively for quite a few years now and it’s only just getting serious about change when it needed to quite a while ago. Still, hopefully another network will take it on - perhaps Sky where the lower viewing figures might not be such an issue.
Very sad news but like others have said, inevitable. It’s been treated disgracefully for years. Sad that just 3/4 years ago it was riding high with the likes of CBB13, BB14 and CBB15. Hopefully it isn’t the end of the format as a whole but it’s had a good run!
I wonder if Davina has been given some inkling that it’s on it’s way out due to being in the industry and that’s what she’s been so nostalgic and positive about the show on social media recently.
When you overly cater for small demographics in society while neglecting a larger one, you're gonna get poor ratings. They ruined it themselves.
Wizard.
29-07-2018, 09:19 AM
Oh well, even though they have been a complete MESS and tacky and we love to hate it if it wasn’t for Channel 5 we would have been Big Brother-less for the last 7 years and they have served us some iconic moments! I’m not really bothered if another channel doesn’t pick it up, I feel like I will be okay without it, besides I still watch the Canadian and US version although they don’t possess that British humour.
Also oops at Channel 5 having to fill 110 hours of TV with Cruising with Jane McDonald, Jane Mcdonald and Friends, Gina D’Campos Wish List, TV’s 100 Most Shocking Moments and a plethora of benefit documentaries.

RuPaul's drag race has really blown up and is very culturally relevant atm. Because of this drag has also been put in the spotlight and theres growing interest for it. So I don't see how a very well known drag queen isn't an appropriate housemate for CBB. Shane also got very involved in all the more mature conversations that got the last CBB so much praise. He brought a different perspective on gender issues and was very good at getting his point across. IMO he was a fantastic addition to the series and the suggestion that his casting is at fault rather than the productions awful handling of the show in the past 7 years is ludicrous.

I'm sad but glad at the same time because channel 5 don't deserve it. The way it's been treated by C5 is a disgrace. They're so ungrateful about their only relevant show and only show that gets people under the age of 60 watching their channel. If they wanted to save money as they claim they could've just axed summer CBB like endemol wanted all along but they're too selfish.
If it's true I hope it gets a year or 2 break then gets picked up by another channel.
Channel 5 are currently denying the story (surprise surprise) and said no decision has been made yet. I imagine they’re waiting to see how the first week or so of CBB does.
Jake.
29-07-2018, 11:26 AM
Seems odd to have a new creative team if the decision has already been made. Surely they would have just pitted it against LI/The World Cup if that were the case?

but now let's just enjoy CBB for this year ok
my point actually is, TiBB has grown to more than just a BB/CBB forum
and i think C5 could have plans for something else as replacement for BB/CBB, maybe something similar but then different and newer franchise
Utopia UK that would be a nice idea i think, as i see many people wanting the back to basics thing :hee:
C5 only needs to contact our tv icon John De Mol to acquire that show :)

I got the furthest I ever have done in the auditions this year and it was very obvious even then just from talking to production team that they knew this was the end. Made it all the more heartbreaking once the process was over. I actually had wanted to come on here months ago and share a few details that I heard but decided against it. I just hope for the sake of the original series, they stay true to their promises and deliver but I doubt it - although it is interesting that they never mentioned the civillian in their statement to The Sun, makes me wonder if they’re waiting to see how their ‘revamped’ civillian series goes before calling it a day. Either way, they’ll probably still axe it.
Channel 5 have themselves to blame but really are kidding themselves in they think any ‘new idea’ they have in the pipeline will ever bring in the ratings Big Brother did for them. Of course they weren’t massive figures but they were better than anything this non-entity of a channel can ever hope for again.
Until next time BB!

Reluctant to say too much (only because of the agreement they make you sign and how it could jeopardise any chance of a late callback) although I doubt it matters much now anyway, but I don’t think it’s giving much away to simply share how much they were looking for ‘genuine’ people.
I mean it was drilled into everybodys heads throughout both rounds that they wanted to go back to their roots and wanted this series to be ‘less about drama and fighting and more about fun’. Main guy literally said this at one stage and this is a direct quote, ‘So we’re looking to go back to the best days of Big Brother so think Series 6 or Series 7’ and I got hyped af at this point but no one else seemed to care which was a shame. What I also found abit telling was just before that a production member admitted straight up (this is infront of PEJ aswell) that ‘Big Brother just hasn’t been working in recent years’.
Moreover the actual Diary Room questions were a far cry from previous years and were all steered towards finding out the type of person you are - as opposed to ‘what makes you tick’ or ‘what kind of people would you least like to live with’ none of those questions came up. I genuienly believe that they’re searching high and low for genuine people who anyone can relate to, which is probably where I went wrong. Anytime anyone said ‘they’re famous on social media’ (cringe) you could literally see the eyes rolling amongst some of the panel. I don’t want to say too much more but at the very, very end of the process it was confirmed that they really didn’t want ‘larger than life characters’ and wanted the everyday man. It should hopefully be obvious what I mean by that as I say it was at the very end of the process.
I think I would have been alot more bitter about this upcoming series if these auditions weren’t done so differently. That’s the other thing aswell, the actual audition process was flipped upside down. But yeah, I’ll probably watch this year and it will be the first time I have done so since I first auditioned years ago. Once I started auditioning and getting knocked back I couldn’t stomach watching the series I auditioned for, but ironically even though this was the closest I came, I’m still intriqued just because of how much you could tell they genuienly are trying something different. Just hope it pays off.
Very true. Very sad too. Couldn’t believe the reactions of some familiar faces when I came on here today, but I guess it really says alot when a forum dedicated to Big Brother doesn’t seem to care that it could be finishing. Stark contrast to what it was like on here in August 2009.

most of us here are genuine fans though only takes a stroll into the rewatch thread to see that. I mean only a fan would rewatch 8+ weeks of a tv show that airs daily. its just that some of us feel like the public need a break before they can let bb into their lives again and just bombarding us with more seasons even though the show is dying is only gonna ensure that its gone forever.

:hehe: Hello!

tbh I wouldn't be surprised if c5 leaked this themselves to draw in viewer and are only planning to confirm axing it if the ratings are still crappy

I thought about this too, they are literally the exact shameless type people that would do something like that.

Its been like this for years, when a season finishes we have ...'its off season threads :cheer2:'
:skull:
That's more to do with how... passionate it gets on here rather than with the show itself.

Well well well... look what the cat dragged in :laugh:

So now people who no longer enjoy the show are trolls?
If you were responding to my post, I was referring to how mad it can get on here during on season with the arguing about favourites, especially if there's a huge rift in the house.
Not about someone being passionate for the show.

I agree... I think you can still be passionate about BB and be disgusted with the direction the show has moved over the years... The idea that you need to be smiles and rainbows all the time in order to be a "fan" is ludicrous...

Chances are they are waiting for this years to see what’s going to happen next year. If this years performs well enough then they’ll renew.

That would be a positive step but I think the badly worded Star story implies that the whole format is getting rested.
Annoys me how they stopped on 19 instead of 20 tho
same they should do series 20 as the last :joker:

That's fine... But it doesn't need to be shoved down other peoples throats... It also doesn't give people a right to question why others are still here just because they have a different outlook...
