He does but, in his words "I like the ratings" and if they're on the increase thanks to this, and it gets more column inches...I reckon he'll take it.

Why do you think they're handling it badly and what do you think they should have done differently? People on Twitter are dense and reactive, they were always going to fall over themselves demanding she be removed just like they do when someone uncovers something a housemate said six years ago. From a production and duty of care standpoint, if a housemate complaints that they were assaulted and feel threatened, they have to do something. They couldn't just turn around and accuse her of lying, that'd be a really bad look. Hence why they've aired the scene, shown her reaction, their response, and let the public make their minds up.

Oh sorry I should have been clearer. I don't think they're handling the situation in the house badly, just the PR of it all.

For example, I think it wouldn't have been a bad idea to put out a statement today explaining why they decided to show it and to give Ryan a warning.

Last night averaged 1.43 million

Most watched Friday eviction in 2 years, up 150k on last week and 400k on last year. Catch up figures are going to be huge

Hopefully tonight's ep will do well with catch up as people will want to see Roxanne walk.

And some other ratings:

BOTS- 616,000 (6.2%)

Live From The House- 340,000 (5.6%). 2nd in it's slot. Up hugely from last Live Feed which got 100k.

How does the series average so far compare to CBB20?

CBB20 average at same stage - 1.27 million

CBB20 grew to 1.36 the following week..

I don’t think it’ll drop? Especially not tonight.. her leaving will be shown so it’ll do very well I imagine. Then there’s a surprise eviction Monday, she might be there for an interview

It's a Saturday so at the very least a slight drop is almost guaranteed, then Sunday will be the first ep without Roxanne and I highly doubt she will even appear on TV for the rest of the year, let alone come back for an interview. I just think the show is gonna struggle to maintain viewership for another week with only 7 people left in who no viewers really have any strong feelings about.

If she did do an interview though I do agree that the ratings would rise for that particular episode.

Well like she didn’t seem too famous going in as all the housemate polls saw her tallying in near the end with people saying they don’t know her and like she’s been doing reality shows for the last year so lol even if she d8d have a career it wasn’t very lively when she came in

We can't have nice things anymore

At this point I'm actually getting annoyed at all the dense casuals on Twitter still screaming 'show them the footage!!!'. It's so weird as well because a decade ago NO ONE would ever have even thought that was an option, let alone suggest it. Just shows how far we've come in terms of production that it's almost expected now  sad tbh

Imagine moving last night’s episode to ten for a game show presented by Gino D’Campo

Would like to know the ratings for that, last couple weeks it was sub 400k, so if it was the same yesterday, that is incredible to go from 400k at 9pm to 1.33m at 10pm.

I imagine the last 3 episodes of BB would have big catch-up numbers, i see all of them surpassing 2m officially surely?

Considering Thurs was 1.37m it would need 630k catch up which could happen, and Friday's 1.43m would need 570k to catch up. Hopefully it works.

I see last night as Super said, to add a lot, I'd say it would go to around 2.1m which would be such a fantastic rating for a Saturday.

Tonight, back down to the 1.2m that it was getting before the incident?

*mazedsalv**
02-09-2018, 11:30 AM
The share of 9.5% would roughly have translated to around 1.6m at 9pm I believe as there was around 16-17m watching in the 9pm slot last night i think.

Now the story is over, I'll say 1.25m tonight.

Rob!

Urgh it would've been so iconic. The build up would've been the housemates not knowing who to believe with a potential divide. Ryan and Roxanne both up and lots of tension leading up to the moment Roxann's name is called out the crowd goes wild, Ryan sobs, Roxanne is hysterical as she takes the long walk to the stairs, she leaves to boos and the house is left stunned

If you put the average together as a whole, it’s 1.3 million which is similar to last weeks numbers, so shouldn’t affect the series average or official ratings too much

Yes i know but the series average is also based on the length of each show, for example the launch show has twice as much weight in the series average than a regular highlights show, and the second show tonight has half the weight of the first show when computing an overall average.

That rating should put it above the overnights of last summer + with officials adding more it should comfortably be 1.9m+.

To remind ourselves...

CBB16- 1.89m
CBB20- 1.78m
CBB21- 1.91m

Starting to think it will beat all 3. To surpass a January series would be shocking!

Realistically what other channel would pick it up though? It’s an expensive show, look at what the celebs are paid. BBC wouldn’t pick it up, Ch4 wouldn’t so it would rely on ITV picking it up and they wouldn’t because they have Love Island. No other channel would have it

Certainly seems that way. It’s fortunate that the incident was followed by a round of normal nominations and an eviction to show off the old school format and that the house hasn’t exactly been dull since the end. Presumably people now want to see Ryan win.

Hopefully this sees through to bbuk and people think about giving it a shot having seen the new direction they're going in.

I mean the discussions around India were interesting like it kinda put trans issues in the highlight for a bit it was being discussed even by political shows in the us but outside of that I don’t really see the appeal? Like it had an interesting concept to work with ykno Ann keeping the house on edge but literally nothing ever come of it? Like there was discussion around Shane and Ann and lgbt stuff which only got dragged on because Courtney wouldn’t stop bringing it up. Like Ann and Shane could’ve been cool and maybe I’m missing something but it literally never went anywhere and had an awful supporting cast to boot full of literally non entity housemates (remember when Shane lynch, malika, jess, Wayne, Maggie, Rachel, Daniel, Johnny, John, Ashley, ginuwine did absolutely nothing?)

Gogglebox has always been one of the biggest threats to BB.

They share a similar audience. Doesn't matter how BB does against something that rates 7m... if it doesn't share the same audience BB won't suffer.

However 3m for Gogglebox which is s beast in the young demo...

It did well tbh.

Pretty sure last time BB faced Gogglebox it lost almost a million a few years back.

With +1 last night was probably around 1.25m which is still on the upper end of Friday ratings for evictions.

Had Gogglebox aired against Natalies eviction it would definitely have been sub 1m.

Sun - 1.88m (+530k)
Average - 1.96

SERIES AVERAGE - 1.94m

So close to 2 million, Roxanne's interview episode might help that plus the 3 days of 1.5+ we had last week.
810k for that Saturday is BB's highest consolidation ever

Wow some huge catch up figures there literally more than what BB18 was getting in some overnights.

It's far from being axed right now. I can imagine their faces at Ch5 if they had PLANNED to axe it, now after seeing how successful the show still is. They've got quite the dilemma on their hands

Although BB19 might still flop hard, I think the show looks in a decent position atm to be back next year. Channel 5 simply don't have *enough* shows which achieve ratings like Big Brother to fill the gap which would be left in the schedule.

The thing I fail to understand, though, is that with BOTS and Live From The House seemingly outperforming the slot average quite a lot of the time, why they still insist on giving us such little live feed? Surely a couple of hours in the afternoon/evening would rate better than whatever else they've got on five star at that time of day?

I mean, if all the infrastructure is already there, I'd imagine live from the house is relatively cheap to produce compared to other shows, and would have the added benefit of the potential of more buzz if something dramatic happens while it's on?

I always thought it’s fair C5 don’t air CBB live that much, because they have HUNDREDS of hours of BB a year so they’re understandbaly wanting to fill more time with their own shows.. BUT, they’ve just started airing Friends at 4-5pm every week day AND 12-5pm every Sunday which has pissed me off because that show is on Netflix and Comedy Central 24/7 while live feed in those hours would easily rate more, cause buzz and therefore boost the main show :fist:

Pretty good with all that competition!

Share looks even better as a 9% share last week was getting 1.5m+

Guessing there was less audience watching TV.

Not sure if anyone knows but Thursdays episode (the night of the actual "incident) was the weeks highest % in 16-34 young audience at 31.8% across every show on EVERY channel.

Here are the Top 4 in overall audience of that all important skew:

The biggest 16-34 audiences (commercials):

01 - 2.73m... 29.7% skew - The Great British Bake Off
02 - 1.67m... 23.1% skew - The X Factor (Sat)
03 - 1.48m... 24.1% skew - The X Factor (Sun)
04 - 687k... 31.8% skew - Celebrity Big Brother (Thu)

Note that it has less but that's because it gets lower ratings, the fact it was the highest % out of everything is incredible.

1.60 million is up 20k on CBB20 and up 30k on CBB21, it's the 3rd most watched episode of the series after launch and Roxanne's interview. For the key demo 16-34's it's up 237% on Channel 5's usual average

supertv247
11-09-2018, 10:50 AM
Also just read on DS that the punch gate episode last Thursday had a 32% share of the key 16-34 demo, which was higher than EVERY SINGLE other programme from the ENTIRE week. Higher than even The Great British Bake Off and X Factor. :o

supertv247
11-09-2018, 11:41 AM
1.32 million overnight series average, up 10k on last summer. Remember, this year’s officials are bigger than ever so the official average is over 100k up year on year (currently at 1.94m compared to 1.78 and 1.90 in January, and the last week of 1.5-1.7m overnights will boost that more)

Here’s the overnight ratings table

Rather than gaining viewers, it seems the Roxanne situation just had viewers who usually watch on catch up watch it live for a few days instead. Sadly we won't see a 2m average, but it's guaranteed to be higher than CBB16, 20 & 21

Really healthy ratings and obviously going to be appealing to another channel.

The 1st time a summer CBB has rated better than the January series.

Yes it is:

Just to compare:

CBB16- 1.89m
CBB20- 1.78m
CBB21- 1.91m

With 1 rating left (the final), the official stands at 1.92m and i believe it will stay at that, so yep, as averages so, not bad.

Also, lets not forget that summer CBB's across the whole 7 year run (excluding CBB8 as it was helped with its huge launch rating), all summer CBBs have averaged between 1.8m and 2.2m.

It;s winter BB which has fluctuated more, from 1.9m to 3.1m!

supertv247
18-09-2018, 04:35 PM
Here’s the average rating for each summer series of CBB, with how it compares to the winter series that aired before it...

2012 - 2.18m - down 400k
2013 - 2.30m - down 500k
2014 - 2.14m - down 1 million
2015 - 1.88m - down 1.2 million
2016 - 2.09m - down 700k
2017 - 1.81m - down 600k
2018 - 1.92m - up 20k

So 2018 is actually quite remarkable, and shows how the winter seasons have suffered a lot more, a lot quicker, while summer has just fluctuated within the same small region

Tbh this annoying 'year of the woman' theme was probably the nail in the coffin. The January series could have had better ratings had they not gone for a more sophisticated approach but with boring housemates and an all woman launch, which was destined not to work well with the public.

Just a bit of info on the officials (we still have the final rating to see anyway).

The 2nd show (shown at 11pm) for Jermaine's eviction which got 1.55m official (up from the 950k overnight at 11pm) received a whopping 22.1% share.
