Golden X to send 1 act straight to judges houses

X FACTOR’s brutal Six Chair Challenge always felt like a bit of a step too far when it came to building tension on the talent show.

The stage sees the contestants whittled down mercilessly to just six per category, and normally leads to heartbreak and tears.

But for one person per group things will get a little less stressful as bosses have introduced a Britain’s Got Talent style ‘Golden X’ button which sees them guarantee a seat and head to judges' houses.

A show source said: “This year each of our judges has one Guaranteed Safe Seat to give away in this round.

"If the judge likes an act enough and they definitely want to see them at judges houses they’ll press this golden X and give that act a Safe Seat.

“This means the act cannot be swapped out of their chair and they’ll go straight through to judges houses.”

It's kind of a useless concept - if the other Judge liked the act that much then they wouldn't swap them out anyway.

A Golden steal would have been much more dramatic, where the judge could press the buzzer to steal a contestant who a previous judge had just eliminated

would prefer straight to lives ?? if the judge liked them so much they were always gonna go to judges house, then still take 6 through to judges houses, to take 3 from there and have 4 in each category
