Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, aka FB2, recently released a new trailer for the movie set in the 1920s Wizarding World. (in a way, a distant prequel to the Harry Potter series)

What do you think? I'm super hyped for this, it seems more like a Harry Potter movie than the first FB and I think it'll be amazing.

Well, no. It's set in the Wizarding World though, which is known as the 'Harry Potter world' to non-fans.

Really, how comes? I think this trailer captures the classic HP magic much better than the first movie

I know. I was referring to the last post about them not being excited for a Harry Potter film.

Ah okay, fair enough. What do you think of the FB film that's been released and the upcoming one shown in this trailer?

Really looking forward to this :D
Though I don't like that Dumbledore is using the Boggart Cupboard; that makes it part of the "Wizarding National Curriculum", I always liked the thought that Lupin kind of improvised it by capturing a Boggard from the Forbidden Forest or a local house, and chucked it in a disused wardrobe from somewhere in the castle...
And anyway, Dumbledore taught Transfiguration, not DADA, so what is this nonsense.

I enjoyed the first one but I don't see how it can last four more films and the gay baiting has left a sour taste.

what gay-baiting?
guess it's too much to expect a tender moment between D. and Grindelwald

I don't think the bolded is actually canon though. So JK has every right to write as she pleases imo.
& technically speaking, Riddikulus is a 'transfiguration' spell as well as a defensive one, so it can be taught in either.

tbf people on twitter were constantly complaining about how JK made dumbledore gay then chose not to show it at all in the movies. it's the first time we've seen/will see a gay relationship in the HP world so i'm here for it

Except they've basically said they are omitting that relationship, thus gay baiting.

The trailer literally shows Dumbledore seeing Grindelwald in the Mirror of Erised...

Yes and that's gay baiting if it doesn't really come into play in the film itself plus it's an out of context look at that scene.
From what I've heard the film's been pretty much washed of any potential gay themes.

Even if it’s just Dumbledore seeing him in the Mirror isn’t that enough? Does it need to be that explicable? Plus there are another three films after this one which will no doubt cover the Dumbledore/Grindelwald backstory the way the last HP film never did.

If by that point they'd already ended their relationship, what would there be to show? A yearning for the past through the Mirror would cover it, surely?

I know the Wizarding World is her IP, and she can do with it as she pleases.
But some of the best fantasy (and scifi for that matter) shows you corners of things, and lets you fill in the gaps.
But hey, it's a major Hollywood movie, gotta appeal to Michael and Joanna!

ETA: Despite how all that sounds, I am really looking forward to this movie!

But a) Dumbledore and Grindelwald don't even share screen time in this movie, so why would they force in a plot that isn't entirely relevant to what's on screen.
They're not purposely omitting anything, it's just not part of this movie.
And b) Was it even confirmed they even had a relationship because the bulk of that story we got in the books in Book 7 seemed like an infatuation on Dumbledore's part that was never reciprocated IMO?

NAGINI IS A WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!
Back in the day, weren't there all kinds of ridiculous rumours and theories, with nearly every female animal being branded as "possible Lily in Animagus form"...
I wonder "who" Nagini is, if she's just some random bint or if she plays a bigger role in the story.

lmao so last time I dared to criticize Rowling a bunch of y'all yelled at me but this movie was a hot mess? It felt like watching a Harry Potter movie without reading the book beforehand because there was just sooooo much going on and so much doesn't make sense and there are so many things that I'm reading in reviews that I didn't even realize happened? Not to mention that a bunch of the plot twists felt like absurd telenovelas.
