Some are still trapped in the rubble

SkyNewsHD

[Dozens of people are reported to be dead after a large section
of a road bridge collapsed in the northern Italian city of Genoa.
Rescue workers say about 10 vehicles were involved when a 200m (650ft)

No, I'm from the south. Genoa is in the North of Italy. But such sad news

They saved a Women
from the rubble. It was built in the 1960's
and more work was due to be done on that bridge.
(on Ch4HD news)

They also said it would be cheaper to build a new one
than keep repairing this real old bridge.

It's an awful tragedy. Do they know what happened yet? Was it poor materials, or too much weight consistently on the bridge?

It was built in the 1960's

Its down to how much Maintenance
was done over the past few years
or the lack of that.

They are saying cracks could have let water in
that effected the inner metal cables in the concrete.
One or 2 cables snap it all goes down,

[Genoa collapsed bridge that left 43 dead
to be rebuilt within eight months
The chief executive of the firm responsible
for the failed structure has
refused to apologise after the tragedy.]

8 months for a rebuild
that's not to bad.

it appears
Extreme amount of Water
in rain form speeded up the
inner metal rods to give way
Old concrete gets holes over 40 or 50 years.

I've been driven across this bridge, Genoa was one of the stops on a cruise we went on, and they did like a coach tour of the city and this bridge was one of the points of interest.

I remember then thinking "how does it stay up with those skinny supports?" - terrifying.

Yes when they built it,
it was like a Fantastic design.
But the Thin bits
over the years and Heavy Rain
gets into that Concrete
with special metal rods.

Rust - a killer
if not checked.
Its that simple.

From Ch4HDNews 8:30PM 18/8/18
Libya has a same style bridge
built by the same Architect
but from December 2017 - cars have been reduced
to a small number, so they knew
the Libya bridge is in Danger.
