Sam Smith is pissing off thousands of fans with his opinions on Michael Jackson‘s music.
The Writing’s on the Wall singer got in hot water after Adam Lambert shared a video of himself and Smith relaxing on a boat with the late icon’s Human Nature playing the background, as Smith confessed:
“I don’t like Michael Jackson, but this is a good song.”
Someone off camera then said, “Oh,” likely in shock from the admission. Well, the rest of the internet was just as mortified.

After vigilant Twitter account Music News Facts captured the quickly deleted video, fans lampooned Smith for his controversial taste in music.

I don’t believe MJ had the perfect discography and I believe the majority of stuff released after Bad was mediocre.
I rank his first albums in order of release (Off the Wall onwards, can’t say I’ve listened to much of his solo stuff prior to that).

Yes, of course he can, but people are upset because Sam isn't just talking about Dua Lipa or Camilla Cabello. He's talking about one of the most talented and biggest selling artists on the planet who still has millions of fans who still idolise him and respect his contribution to music. MJ was a major force - still is (9 years after death). He sits up there alongside The Beatles, Elvis and Madonna, so to say "Human Nature" was a good song (As if it's his ONLY good song) would be a bit hard to swallow...especially coming from someone as Vanilla as Sam.

I actually agree @ none of his songs being great tbh
Human Nature (my personal favourite), Billie Jean, Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Off the Wall, The Way You Make Me Feel, Earth Song, Scream w/Janet Jackson, Thriller, Black or White, Man in the Mirror, PYT (Pretty Young Thing), They Don't Care About Us, Say Say Say, Will You Be There...
There's plenty I'm not that keen on but are seen as 'greats' (Bad, Ben, Dirty Diana, Heal the World, You Are Not Alone)
And then without 'Wanna Be Startin Somethin' there'd have been no Rihanna - Don't Stop The Music, so that makes MJ a queer icon by default :clap2:

Thanks, but no one's discography is perfect. Not even MJ'S ....which is why I ignored "Invincible" from 2001.
Off The Wall and Thriller are about as perfect as you can get.... Bad has it's moment's too, but doesn't quite get there despite all the hits. Dangerous is fantastic, but the first 4 songs are a bit of a drag. Everything after that is brill.

I never said they were untouchable, Caprimint. Music lovers are perfectly within their rights to dislike whomever they choose, but a lot of people just disregard these legends without listening to their music (bar one or two songs). I do like some of Sam's music, but it's nothing spectacular. He's just a male vocalist who doesn't really do anything but sing. MJ earned every bit of his legendary status. Sam's good but I can't see him having much longevity, tbh.

..I quite like Sam Smith tbh...so you knew this would be used against you one day...reap what you sow...
https://media.giphy.com/media/zvDT09xBhcuMo/giphy.gif
...he hasn’t got a great stage presence I agree ...so is quite ‘boring’ as an artist but he has talent, though...and there are many present artists who don’t have the stage presence either but still have a lot to offer in the music world...
..I do understand why some people are not on board with Michael...he was of his time as well...an incredible child music artist and then incredible as an adult artist, but yeah...still of his time and his dancing performances, his on stage presence..?...well other artists have given similar since is the thing...but not at that time, though..but then every artist is of their time, which is why he’ll always have iconic status in the music world ...because of his inspiration to others who came after...
..Sam hasn’t reached that yet...only time will tell whether he will inspire or does inspire other artists because he’s kind of middle of the road as well..not amazing, not awful...which isn’t a good start in his own time so not that hopeful...but yeah, he doesn’t like him as an artist, that’s fine...so long as he acknowledges Michael’s much deserved place...etc...
Natalie.

I'm no fan of Sam Smith, but I support his right to not be dictated to on which singers he likes and dislikes.
I'm actually fortunate to like quite a few of MJ's songs, but there are quite a few popular singers that I don't like that much and I would find it incredibly rude if people started insulting me and dictating to me to change my opinion, if anything it'd make me stick to that opinion even moreso and I hope that Sam Smith does the same here and doesn't back down to popular demand.

I've listened to all of MJ's solo albums including his two posthumous ones and I happen to really like pretty much all of his songs recorded (with maybe just a few exceptions in his later years tbh) although some are ofc better than others and I wouldn't expect everyone to agree with me on that one but come on now..
Considering how versatile his music is (idk wtf Nicky is on :joker::joker:) I find it difficult to comprehend how someone can like NONE of his music, regardless of taste. If you don't you probably have really **** music taste tbh
least sam smith likes some of his songs. Although considering his musical style I'm suprised he's not a fan.
