View Full Version : Thoughts on this president task?

Do you like it or not?

Rob!

I do actually. It’s obviously been designed to bring out the topic of politics amongst them, which in today’s climate is guaranteed to start friction. It could be more subtle I suppose but I think it’s created a really strong opening few days.

Reminded me of an old style tasks, looks innocuous enough but designed to cause tension, and it is a parody which seems to be going over some heads...

Embarrassing tbh.

I hope Kirstie got a decent fee, she looks like she's regretting it already.

don’t like it

CBB21 taught me that i’d rather not watch a super political series because it drains me and it’s reminding me of that

I’m liking it a lot, it’s opening a whole can of worms about political views/agendas that are actually interesting to watch.

Its an alright task imo, they should have kept them guarding the wall overnight though imo I miss 24 hr tasks.

Its also been thought up to cause some conflict though

Really messy but great at the same time

Rob!

Also can we just at the fact that they’ve gone straight into a shopping task with this much thought put into it instead of getting them all to stand under a mass of cotton wool to represent a cloud and getting the housemates to attribute buckets of water over their heads that represent “which housemate does this storm belong to?”

It's been a great task.

Tasks that last days are the best, and like Cherie said above, it's caused a divide which is great viewing, and has caused a lot of good debates between the housemates. C5's usual ideas to cause divides would be who said what, so this is a refreshing change, and more C4 feels to it

:laugh2:

Give them time. This was all originally for Stormy's benefit.

They needed to save something for after her week was over!

But really "Hollywood actress who got really fat" and "Threatened to stab the mother of his child" or "Who got licked out on Lake Placid" would be a pretty obvious game.

Yeah they should at least up her fee for doing this when Stormy was meant to be doing it and even though she will obviously survive evictions this could actually ruin her time in there?

Sally to push her so her predictions come true and be like oh look at me I called this, i'm not a fraud

Y'all are too easy to please, celebrating over a task lasting longer than a day :joker:

It's a pretty dull task and I can see why people are offended at certain things like the wall - it's making a mockery of traumatic experiences that many Americans are going through right now.

I'm ready for it to be over and hopefully we get a better quality shopping task next time!

Yeah, agreed. The execution has improved massively on previous seasons, but the task is both pointless and tasteless and it's pretty clear that neither Kirstie nor Ryan are enjoying being "in power".

It may have been the producers' intention to start with something political to crank up the tensions, but a lot of the airhead, Millennial HMs seem totally oblivious of the issues and are, therefore, apolitical.

JoshBB

The wall thing w/ green cards was pretty insensitive when you think back to the whole "children being separated from their families" thing (which some still are, btw). I also don't like how they had non-HMs enter the house, and I guess it's a minor violation of the format because we didn't see their face & they didn't interact, but still. :nono:

It's a lot better than tasks from the BB14-16 era, but really that's not difficult as the bar couldn't be lower in that case lol

Marsh.
20-08-2018, 12:01 AM
The children is the first thing I thought of.

Would they find the task such a laugh if they had to build cages and keep the kids from running out.

Absolutely.

Having the 'runners' wear masks of famous faces such as Trump and the queen was a good save on the producers' behalf. ****ing imagine if they had mexicans.. BB would be over lol

Handing over the "Presidency" to Kirstie on the first night was just disrespectful... The biggest problem with C5's BB has been the blatant manipulation and interference by the production team... IMO not a very good way to start a series that had been hyped as a return to good form...

Marsh.

In what way?

So far she's chosen a couple of housemates to wear costumes, someone to have a cold shower, someone to drink liquidised veg etc. It's really not that serious.

It is from this POV (boring), because Trump and politics is all that people seem to want to talk about in the media anymore. Still, it's an easy way to cause in-house tensions... it may have made more sense if Stormy were still in, but then again, it may have become even more contrived than this...

I did find Kirstie's commentary about "group behavior" a bit comical considering she's a gold card carrying member of a major cult though...

So I haven't proper watched a CBB since like 2015 or so, but I decided to skim through today's episode to see what all the Natalie buzz was about even though I only have room for one Bad Girl in my heart and it's Tanisha.

Then I saw BB have the HMs build a wall and then put people in weird Trump/Hillary bigheads or something and THEN have HMs assigned as border patrol agents and I was disgusted and closed out of that tab. I'm fully okay with this show being cancelled tbh!

I think it’s a good TASK which reminds me of a TASK from the C4 days - but it’s just a TASK!

Stop getting so triggered over a gameshow girls, if you don’t like it then build a wall around yourself so you get stuck and we don’t have to hear you MOANING! Xx

I think some people are missing the point of the task lmao. It's taking the piss out of Trump, not celebrating him

. I find it incredible that people find it tasteless, no wonder BB is going to be axed, when viewers celebrate people walking around in swimwear pretending to fancy each other but are uncomfortable with political parody. the tasks are meant to psychologically test the housemates folks if you want them to just hear tweets you really don’t want the show to go back to basics, it’s obvious this task was designed for Stormy, bit difficult to pull something else out of the bag when she bailed at the 11th hour

Macie Lightfoot
20-08-2018, 06:51 AM
If the show wasn't about to get axed I'm sure next summer we'd get CBB All-Stars and the first Shopping Task would be to have the HMs reenact Song of the South, with Denise Welch donning blackface to play Uncle Remus and Tiffany Pollard playing Bre'r Rabbit. It would be the perfect lead-in to yet another C5 docu-series about how people on benefits are the scum of the earth.

...yeah I am feeling the same, Macie...I’m feeding into it all by watching it, it’s that thing of still finding housemate dynamics fascinating and learning about people’s lives you know...but that’s no excuse really...I try to resist and somehow I’m drawn in because of people’s stories...

Eddie.

we don't really know what it could have been had Stormy entered but I think they are definitely going in the right direction. It's a breath of fresh air from the "today Big Brother set a task, however this was not the real task" kinda thing we had every single day for the last few series.

Has this one been an all night thing? No?

I honestly don’t know why people are getting so offended by it. It’s a reality game show that has been quite well known over the years to throw in satire in the tasks. That’s all this is, political satire. It might not be the most subtle the show has ever done but I have no idea why people are in such uproar about it.

All day and all night guarding the wall with people trying to climb over at any time, different pairs doing like 2/3 hour shifts a time.

This task would've been a SCREAM with Stormy, they were obviously pining for some viral clips like having her talk about building a wall etc :skull:

It's not the most exciting task in the world but I'm pleased it's a throwback to the way they used to be, with a certain number of fails etc. Also...for once, the sets don't actually seem that tacky? They've done a decent enough job with the theming

They should instead be doing a task where Kristie plays the head of a cult who makes people sign 1,000 year contracts, takes all their money, and locks them and their children away in sweat shops for lives, claims it can "cure" homosexuality, and says that psychiatry and medication for mental illness are terrible things.

Ammi
21-08-2018, 04:49 AM
..I thought it was a little bit messy tbh...although elements of it were quite amusing...but on the whole though..?...it was obviously based on American politics rather than UK politics ..and it was also based on satire humour...which is a bit of a contradiction as it’s mainly aimed at UK audiences...and obviously all forum members excluded as we don’t ever generalise about anything...we’re all too smart for that etc...but there is a generalisisation for many UK public that Americans don’t really get satire so much..?...so yeah, why aim the humour type in that way, it doesn’t make sense for a ‘general public’ type thing...
