From Ben's exit interview it seems he started to put 2 and 2 together and I think he spoke with Ryan (probably after Roxanne had shown him how 'hard' Ryan hit her) and started to built a clearer picture from there. He did seem rather crest fallen when Emma showed him the incident during his interview. But also good on him for not trying to defend Roxanne.
