there were protests planned in ireland that were probably going to be much more difficult to avoid than in the UK

I'm not saying that to criticise people for going to see him btw, I like the Pope and would have been excited for the visit as well

I don't think he's a bad man. But the recent history of the Catholics, especially in Ireland... I can see why people would be pissed off.
