20 inches of rain is 500mm
London gets about 750mm in a year
The most the UK has ever got in a day is probably around 340mm high up in the Lakes

RAINFALL: Florence is expected to produce heavy and excessive
rainfall in the following areas...
Coastal North Carolina...20 to 30 inches, isolated 40 inches. This
rainfall would produce catastrophic flash flooding and significant
river flooding.
South Carolina, western and northern North Carolina...5 to 10
inches, isolated 20 inches.
Elsewhere in the Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic states...3 to 6
inches, isolated 12 inches.
source: NOAA
40 inches of rain is more than most places in the UK get in a whole year!

true, we had also been in North Carolina when we were on holiday there, more like a roadtrip from Tennessee to south and then north Carolina, all the way up to the Niagara Falls
lots of beautiful nature places as well in both south and north Carolina, hope whatever of that gets damaged from this storm, will recover tbh

I spent a lot of time in C and NC. The family I worked for live in South Carolina but have family living in Wilmington NC right on Cape Fear. They have been hit numerous times by these storms. Its so beautiful there but the storms do hit them.
Cat 2 isnt too bad. It may even downgrade before it comes on shore. They always hype these things. It depends on where the wet side is and how fast it comes on shore. Cat 2 is not so strong and after a downgrade or two, will be a TS... those are rainmakers with some gusty winds, so will introduce flooding, but nothing were unaccustomed to in the South.

i've heard there is still a risk of landslides in some areas, due to the huge amount of rain water :worry:
Crimson Dynamo

flooding will be a big issue
Nicky91

flooding will be a big issue
yes that, but also with flooding won't that weaken the ground so making landslides also a big issue
its category 1 now, so getting less dangerous all the time
