How do writers create characters?
And what's the process for making these characters?

That's like asking "How does a person live their life?" the answer is different for everyone.

No it's not
Characters are most of the time made up by imagination but there must be a process

Yes, I'm quite aware. I wasn't suggesting they are real.
I was using an example of something that is different for everyone.
There is no one process to creating a character, just as there's no one way to live life.

I don't create characters my love, but I've made my good friend Rob aware of the thread. He is an author. He'll come on and give us his process when he gets chance to.

I usually just start off with a scene or a moment or some sort of important strand related to a character and build from there.
With Black, the starting point for the main character and the story as a whole was the idea of a person selling his soul to the Devil for revenge and then I just built everything from that point. What would motivate him to do that? What was his life like up until that point? What would his personality be like having lived through his troubled past?
It might not work for everyone but it works for me, start of with a strand of a plot, a moment, a scene and build from there.

I don't understand the question.
Do you mean have I ever been stuck thinking of characters? Yeah, there's a character in my book called Lorelei who I pretty much changed dramatically in every draft of the book because I couldn't decide who I wanted her to be.

No stuck in a character role they take over your life and you become a totally different person

I don't think that's ever happened to me tbh, writing certain scenes left their mark on me whilst I was working on the book but I managed to put it to rest once the book was done.

You've just got to force yourself to write, even if it's **** you can revisit it later. getting the foundations of a book down is like 80% of the work. It's easy to tune up the writing later.
