Well of course I dont expect everyone to likeher. But alot of people seem to really dislike her. I was wondering why this is the case as I IMO dont think shes done anything to be disliked.

lol i think people are affraid she'll be a good housemate....
maybe because they got their first impresssions a bit wrong....
But want to dislike her.
Maybe people think she's a snob coz she has a nice accent and some intelligence.
Billy
02-06-2007, 03:22 PM
Yeah. Class and a bit of intelligence dont appear to sit well with some people
Emilee

LMAO probably not.
Your asking what has she done wrong....Can i ask what has she done right to make you love her so much?

Nohting but most people assume nice things instead of assume bad things if theirs no hard facts to go on.
At least she has an identity of her own , unlike that lass in your avatar.

I dont dislike her, she has yet to impress me I think.
I think the my main problem with her is that she thinks she is cool, new indie music, skinny jeans comment, 10/10 for inteligence.... etc.
I always have a problem with someone who bigs themself up so much
Billy

LMAO the reason I like Emily is she appears to be one of the only people this year who have class.

Totally agree with that......big headed, smug, cocky people are the exact type of people i dont like and she seems to be all of the above at the moment.
Obviously its still early days and i could love her by the end although i cant see it happening. Im pretty sure she will turn out to be the stuck up, smug cow im expecting.

Its just an impression I get, she seems a nice girl but from her VT on entering the show, she seemed a little selfcentred

I agree that modelling yourself on Posh Spice isn't exactly a great thing, but it certianly wouldn't make me dislike a girl.
In my opinion being a stuck up, smug girl is a tad bit worse than styling urself on posh spice.

I fail to identify with people who say these things. We could all do with a bit more of being smug , cocky and big headed if you ask me. Its hardly a bad thing - and so far she has been extremely respectfull to all the other housemates.

Its nothing big yet, and as ive said my ooinion could easily chnage in the coming weeks, but just little things & conversations on livefeed give me that impression. Ive already mentioned the skinny jeans comment, the faces she makes when she talks about other poeple! hard to explain, but she kind of....scrunges her face up.
When the girls were asking where Ziggy was sleeping last night she said something along the lines of "Well he's not sleeping next to me i can tell you that" as if she was so much better than him.
These are little things, but enough to give me a bad first impression of her.
Where do you get the impression form that she is nice?

I agree, I hate stuck up, smug people, thankfully, Emily is neither of those things :joker:
I like her because I like intellegant girls, someone with something their heads other than empty space, through which "I wanna be a WAG!" echoes. She has a lot of class, but she's very down to earth, and unlike some past housemates, she doesn't seem to see the others as beneath her *cough* Suzie *cough*.
Also, with the indie comment, yes it has been around for a long time, but its more popular now than it ever has been in the past.

I disagree with that...... is was massive in the 90's, supergrass, pulp, blur...it was called brit pop but its was still indie. Its just come around again.... as all music does.

It was the way she said it, the face she made and the tone she said init. Its obviously hard to explain things like that and you have to see it. I would call it the.....smug look!

Yeah but in recent years their has been a second wave of Indie , and its starting to take over the country. Thats what she meant. Ok so she said the word 'new' but lets not base our preceptions of a housemates personality around a sentence they said in her VT.
As we know , VT's are usually full of bullshit.

Thats the way i saw it anyway.....i doubt it will be shown on highlights cos of all the arguments last night, its little things like that which you see on the livefeed which isn't shown on the higlights that can sway your opionions on people. Again its a little thing, but early on its enough to leave a bad impression. Also the skinny jean comment was just pathetic.

Hmm, I saw it as in she asked her the date of birth so she didnt sound rude asking her age. And also, why would she come up with the story about the war if she was making it obvious

She wanted to know the womans age. I dont see the issue. People are generally very common. Hence the term common. It was a casual thing she was doing.

yea sure........yesterday i heard her saying "I bought my skinny jeans 3 years, i mean who was wearing skinny jeans 3 years ago"......so apparently she's invented the Skinny Jeans style as well!
Again, nothing massive, but the little things like that are adding up, it seems that she thinks shes something special.
and the way she approached Lesley & asked her about her d/o/b wasn't exactly done in a nice way.

It's just rude the way she stuck her head out the door and casually asked, without any awareness of Lesley's feelings. It is rude and immature. If I was in there, I would have a conversation with Lesley before asking, what I consider to be a personal and rude question to someone who is clearly not young.
That is the key. Lesley is not 20. You do not just stick your head out the door and casually ask someone's date of birth. Rude. Also her facial expression was one of sarcasm when Lesley (quite right) refused to tell her. This shows a lack of sensitivity when deeling with an older person.

Stu, the lady is 60 years old. There is respect when dealing with the matter of age with someone who is clearly not a youngster.

Just wanting to know a date of birth isnt a reason, if you are over a certain age its rather rude just to be asked in my opinion

Lesley's the same one who stole the single bed form under the others noses right? Not exactly a noble thing to do either. Age is not the issue.

Yes .. but she said she wanted to know if she was alive when she was in the war, the only reason she was asking is because people were saying seh was 72 and Emily thought seh was 60

I'm actually one of the few who's in the middle... I liked her on the first night, but at the moment she's not really done anything to make me like or dislike her more. Not even done anything interesting full stop yet. But I realise for some it takes a while for them to come out of their shell and be their true selves, which is why I'd say I still like her.

You know what I totally agree, I always encourage my daughters to "big" themselves up if they dont who is going to. I am more than happy to sing my own praises when I know I am great at something, at the end of the day we all need our ego's to be stroked every now and then :colour:

No. She was in an uncomfortable position and reacted in self defence, so she could get the bed. I think as the oldest person she had a right to it anyway. As for the lies, this is her sense of humour and manipulation. It is not a matter of respect. Emily was only acting the way she did as a kind of bullying. She had the whole house behind her and she knew when she casually and rudely asked Lesley her age, the house were behind her. This is disrespect.

Bullying ? LMAO She was asking a flipping age. Also, if Lesley had that much of a right to the bed, why should she lie about it. And I dont find lying humorous.

Yes, I did find that to be bullying. When someone intimidates another. Lesley was well aware that Emily was reporting back to the other housemates and she felt ostracised. That is bullying in my book.
And of course lying can be humorous. To claim she is 72 is harmless fun.

Smug or extemely self confident?
I suspect dear Emily is the result of a good middle class education. She is going to be tarred with the 'Grace' brush because she was, until Ziggy, the only youngster who spoke with clipped tones.
In her VT she stated she never loses and yes that could be called smugness, but it could also be self confidence which is drilled into you in most private schools.
If that is the case (I'm making a presumption) then she's a product of her environment, that's all.
My personal opinion is that I do not trust her. Instincts are strong here and tell me that she's playing a game? I could be wrong but let's wait and see.:conf:

It may not bug some so much, but to other people - older especially - asking them their age like that, whilst making it obvious that others were talking about them, isn't really polite. I never really saw it that way.
Thank you Ash... I thought I was going mad... Some people are sensitive about their age and when someone casually comes up and asks for your year of birth without a genuine reason is isnt reallt respectful
But it isnt really respectful lying to your fellow hms telling them

Okay, but if she was lying, and the housemates wanted to know her real age. What was wrong with that. Its not as if Carole would have went on like that.
Yes, I did find that to be bullying. When someone intimidates another.
Emiley : Sorry can I ask you your age?
Right.
It was a bit dippy just to open the door and effectively say 'how old are you leslie'. I mean she must have a granny and I'm sure she wouldn't be delighted if one her friends did the same, and that wouldn't even be in front of 5 million viewers !.Having said that I don't have a view on her yet and I hope she' has a personality to match her looks. she seems ok ish.:conf:

I hope you are aware , Moses Four Four Five , that you are perhaps the only person in human history to use the word 'vile' to describe the actions of asking an age.
Here , read this :
–adjective, vil·er, vil·est. 1. wretchedly bad: a vile humor.
2. highly offensive, unpleasant, or objectionable: vile slander.
3. repulsive or disgusting, as to the senses or feelings: a vile odor.
4. morally debased, depraved, or despicable: vile deeds.
5. foul; filthy: vile language.
6. poor; wretched: vile workmanship.
7. of mean or low condition: a vile beggar.
8. menial; lowly: vile tasks.
9. degraded; ignominious: vile servitude.
10. of little value or account; paltry: a vile recompense.

I "personally" wouldnt be bothered if someone asked me my age, some people appear to have issues with the way it was asked and I think that comes down to personal levels of tolerance.

Its a dicussion about Emily in a thread about Emily. Good to get the grey matter working if you ask me. This forum agrees with itself too much for my liking .
For the first time i agree with you.......The reason Im on this forum is to have debates like this.
I would rather read and write posts like this......than just post a dancing elephant and i say "i like her".
Precisly.
I agree. I prefer having a disagreement about housemates and a few little digs, rather than the mindless threads I often see going on. Fun to spice it up a bit.
Again............ Excuse me! Hello The thread states... What Has Emily Done Wrong? not what has red moon done wrong.. please stick to the topic or it will end very shortly
I agree with healthy debate.. but ... we have to agree to disagree also... if you have issues with this please re-read the forum rules!

She hasn't done ANYTHING, people just wish to judge her, pretty lame really.

The thread got two posts 'off topic' , I was merely answering Moses'es question for him , a question about something said IN the topic ABOUT the said topic. Just a bit of in-topic banter. We are not a million miles away from the Emily thing you know?
What about all the pink elephant talk?
To stick to 'the topic'.... she is possibly my favourite in it now. Its ironic that I love her for all the reasons everybody else hates her :joker::joker::joker:.

I must agree with Stuart. We can have some banter and fun in and around the topic. We are not in Primary school.

Everyone judges everyone. You just don't agree with their judgment. Doesn't make everybody's judgment automatically lame, as they are all judging for different reasons.

I like Emily because she's an individual, different to anyone else we've seen on the show.
About the Lesley/age thing. I don't think she was being rude, she just asked. If she hadn't somebody else would have! I actually think that Lesley was being quite rude back towards her with her face expressions, but that's just my opinion.

And I have no problem speaking up for other members criticizing a rule I find a little harsh.
Im on this wrestling forum and if theirs a topic about wrestler A , and somebody leaves a comment , he could get a slaggin for it and they would have a joke around IN the topic and still remain on topic. Its so cool and laid back. Room for discussion.
Again what about all those posts a page back about the pink elephants? Are they different?

Well yes, sir. I am so sorry, sir. I must not have independent thought and have to stay on topic all the time and even if I post the slightest dig at someone else, I will get banned and never allowed back.
'I must follow the rules like everybody else'. That sounds just like a fascist primary school.
Heck, I'm a school professor, and I am aware that rules are there for a purpose, but anyone who blindly follows rules, with NO ROOM FOR ARGUMENT, is leading a life of such stringent conformity, it is ludicrous.
I bet the comment now is 'you don't like it why are you here'? I will answer that. I was hoping there may be some room for a debate about it, rather than 'you don't follow the rules, you're expelled'.

You've got bad taste in housemates, but a good moral argument going there. Hope for you yet!
