Lets see.. the BBC began transmitting as a public broadcaster in 1922, they produced their first television Test Card in 1947. (The 25th anniversary of the BBC)

Channel 4 began transmitting as a public broadcaster in 1982, (2007 is their 25th anniversary year)

Erm OK...

Yes there has been threads speculating the meaning of the eye but I havent seen what Clom posted yet.

I posted this topic because some members are still wondering what the eye could mean.

Just a theory of course, but I think a good theory :thumbs:

Based on the house, the intro, the countdown promos, the sets, and what Davina said... I DON'T think it's a test card eye. Just a multicolored eye that's kinda ugly IMO. :rolleyes:

this eye is ofical why would they put a test card on the adverts and everywhere tehy put it on sets as well what is the piont on this being a test card eye when they have spent a lot of money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah it is a teat card eye..... but that doesnt explain alot...... e have to dog deeper..... why were they used......when did c4 use them from etc..

A test card is a television test signal, typically broadcast at times when the transmitter is active but no programme is being broadcast (often at startup and closedown).

Its purpose was to check for picture and sound tuning but with the advent of 24-hour television, the famous BBC test card is gradually disappearing from our screens. The X on the Black board, this was used to mark the centre of the TV screen.

The BBC launched the first test card in their 25th anniversary year, This being the 25th anniversary of Channel 4, I was suggesting that they might have designed this eye with that in mind, as a celebration of 25 years of channel 4.
