POSH wannabe Chanelle Hayes tried to KILL herself after learning her real mum was a drug-taking prostitute murdered by a client.

The distraught teenager slashed her wrists in her bedroom as her adoptive parents hammered on the door.

Luckily they managed to break into the room and save their sobbing daughter.

They bandaged her wrists and arranged for her to have counselling.

However Big Brother bosses KNEW about Chanelle's suicide bid — and still ruled she was mentally fit to take part in the show.

But her parents Harry and Christine told the News of the World they feared for their daughter's sanity.

The worried couple revealed how she:

RAN AWAY at the age of 14 with an older boy

ABORTED a baby last year after her boyfriend abandoned her, and was

RESTRAINED and calmed down by POLICE during a wild tantrum at home.

Dad Harry, 55, said: "I don't think Chanelle ever came to terms with what happened to her mum and I don't think she ever will.

"We'd told her her mum was a lovely woman who was taken away so a new mum and dad were found for her. We loved her very much and wanted to protect her.

"She put her mother on a pedestal and worshipped her. She saw her as a beautiful princess — like someone in story book.

"Then one night she was at a friend's house when she was about 14. I don't know how, but it came up in conversation that something bad had happened to her mum.

"Chanelle called us, distraught, and demanded we went round to explain."

Adopted mum Christine, 49, rushed to the pal's house in her pyjamas and was confronted by a hysterical Chanelle.

She had to tell her daughter that her biological mother Natalie was slaughtered in Manchester in 1988 in a row over money—when Chanelle was just four-years-old.

Christine said: "I was so upset. I knew she'd ask one day and I'd dreaded it. I wanted to wait until she was older, I didn't want her to be affected by it."

Later Chanelle discovered she had two sisters— now aged 27 and 37—who she contacted through social services. Their mum's killer is serving a life sentence in prison.

Blade

Then a few months after Chanelle's shocking discovery, she tried to kill herself at home in Middlestown, West Yorks, following a row with a boyfriend.

Christine recalled: "She was in such a state. We kicked her door down and found her slashing at her arms with a blade.

"There was blood all over her. I was begging her to stop and asking her why she was doing this to herself. She wouldn't say. I calmed her down and bandaged her arms and tried to console her.

"Chanelle has so many things going round in her head that she didn't really know what she was doing."

Harry added: "It broke my heart, seeing my beautiful daughter doing this to herself. I felt so helpless."

Chanelle had several counselling sessions but then turned to boozing and partying. She also developed a fixation with Victoria Beckham and started dressing like her—much to the approval of local boys.

Christine said: "Once she went out one night and never came home. We called her friends but no one knew where she was.

"I was distraught. I found out where her boyfriend lived and went round to his house at night.

"He was older than her and denied she was there but we found out later she was hiding in the bedroom. She came home after three days."

Chanelle dated a string of lads, including one who attacked her. Last year she fell pregnant to another man and wanted to keep the child — but he deserted her and she had an abortion.

Harry said: "Christine and I told her we would support her whatever decision she made.

"She chose to have a termination. That was probably the right thing in the end given her age and her prospects but that's not a decision we could have made for her."

Then last October Chanelle flew at her dad in an explosive rage over using the home computer.

Harry, a graphic designer, said: "I told her I needed to finish my work and she went berserk. She was shouting and screaming and swearing.

"I tried to calm her down but I couldn't so I called the police. I just didn't know what to do."

But Harry says he has no regrets about adopting Chanelle. They also have an adopted son, David, 15.

Harry said: "We always strive to give them the best lives possible. We may have made some mistakes but we think we have done pretty well and Chanelle is a happy and lovely person.

"It's difficult watching her on Big Brother and I wouldn't have chosen for her to go in the house but I wouldn't have wanted her to pass up the chance and then regret it later.

"Adopting her was the best thing we ever did. I'm as proud today as the first day I held her in my arms."

I read in the Daily Mail that Big Brother uses the state of the art psychological technologie to track down the least emotionally stable people to go in the house, when these people should be in counselling not a reality TV show. I hope Big Brother doesn't take advantage of people's emotional state for higher ratings and so on.

The girl's been through a hell of a lot - what a shocking thing to find out as a teen; it's enough to make extremely stable people unstable. Her Victoria Beckham and WAG obsession therefore might have stemmed from insecurities. I feel I can understand her more now, but I do think BB's made the correct decision by still putting her in because she seems to be coping calmly and bravely so far, although I do want to see more of her actual personality.

I don't think she'll receive a sympathy vote and win purely because of her personal reasons - I'm confident she has an interesting personality in her that will arise soon enough, and allow her to do well solely by herself.

Hehe! It's funny how you name 2 serious reasons, then round your argument off with "And she's really fit!" Lol!

Nothing wrong with that, just made me laugh!

I actually think the BB experience, whether she's successful in surviving evictions or not, will be positive for Chanelle. With us being originally unaware of these issues, she's done nothing to indicate that she's had such a troubled spell.

To me, it's quite endearing too - she's not been "Poor me, I need sympathy", she's just got on with the job in hand, and has had to contend with many fiery characters, e.g. Charley, Shabnam.

At this point, I think Chanelle might just have done herself a world of good by entering into the programme.

You know, Chanelle has really surprised me. In the beginning, I thought she'd have no personality and was a VB clone and had no originality to herself. But she's actually proving to be a quite endearing character.

Good on her.

That's so awful, I don't think BB has exploited her 'mental health issues', considering what she's been through she does seem relatively happy.
