View Full Version : (video)Ryanair criticised over footage of passenger racially abusing woman

[The passenger, who has not been named, then shouts
"don't talk to me in a foreign language you stupid ugly cow" before calling her
an "ugly black b******".
Staff on the flight seem to do little to silence the man during the footage,
leaving a passenger sitting behind to try and deal with the situation.]

BBCnewsHD get the Facts Correct

The Racist could not be removed
at that airport, as they would lose the place in the take off slot.

So all on that plane including the fella that filmed it
(now on every tv news his name is David Lawrence)
could be held up for 4 or 6 hours,

A black women activist said (on BBCnewsHD)
or he should be moved ,
BUT the did better that, 78 year old lady was moved slowly
to sit with her daughter,

So the Plane was Correct to leave the Racist on.

Bit of a mountain out of a molehill. Daft old bugger insults an old lady, probably would still have insulted her if she was white. And frankly, I d rather they let the silly old sod stay on the plane and I don't get delayed by 4-6 hours. I mean, everyone's seen this now, they know he's not the full quid... probably only about 70p.

Epic.

Ryanair are a complete disaster ! , they've already been upsetting customers with their terrible service. And now the staff on this plane have shown themselves to be a bunch of brainless idiots!! . They should of removed this thing off the plane with an emergency landing and told him to GET LOST! .

They see a RACIST hostile aggressive person throwing abuse at another passenger and they do nothing , this is disgusting and i also find it disgusting that this nasty old man got away with it . His face is everywhere now though so i'm pretty sure he'll be recognised and he's shown his true colours :nono: .

Let's not hold up a whole plane full of people, plus cost the airline money by missing their take off slot and cause a knock-on delay as air traffic control tries to reorganise them, then have him taken off by Spanish police and thrown in the pokey... because some silly old sod called a black woman a black woman. I mean, he said "don't talk to me in a foreign language!" He was a British man returning from Spain. Most people he met would have been talking in a foreign language. The man is obviously an idiot and shamed himself, plenty of people berated him for it. And so they should. But let's keep a little perspective.

I'm sure some compensation will help this woman get over it.

Because to me, he sounds mental. Also the cabin crew have been criticised constantly when it would have been the Captain's decision whether a daft old bugger making a racist comment to another passenger was worth holding up everyone for hours.

I think about all the ways people suffer because of their race... and this incident is news all over the world. I hope the woman and her daughter get some compo to make the whole ridiculous circus worthwhile.

I know there are racist people in this country. My Grandmother, who is in her 90s, is ready to move to Israel if Jeremy Corbyn gets elected because he will lead us to socially acceptable, state-sponsored antisemitism and she's already lived through that once. A muslim spat in my face on the Tube because I was wearing a Star of David. No one intervened on my behalf. I took a picture as the angry muslim ranted at me and handed it to the Transport Police. They couldn't have been less interested.

It's not only black people who are subjected to this kind of sh1t, but really, you have to keep some perspective. No one seems willing to think the old nutter on the aeroplane is anything other than a vile racist, when he probably just hates everyone.

No one seems willing to think the old nutter on the aeroplane is anything other than a vile racist, when he probably just hates everyone.

He can be both.

The fact he's angry at the whole world doesn't make an iota of difference as this specific incident was his abuse of that woman.

No

I suggested that it could be a reason for his erratic behavoir

I think i could be right too

For someone who’s always looking for proof of racism to the victim you don’t half like fabricating silly stories to excuse the abuser do you.

[A man who hurled racist abuse at an elderly black woman on a Ryanair flight has been named as David Mesher.
The accused, who lives in a sheltered retirement housing block in Birmingham, declined to comment to reporters outside his home.]

You obviously have no experience of old people and dementia

I understand that

All you seem to get is hate and I'm genuinely sorry that is all you have

There is so much more than that to life

I know there are racist people in this country. My Grandmother, who is in her 90s, is ready to move to Israel if Jeremy Corbyn gets elected because he will lead us to socially acceptable, state-sponsored antisemitism and she's already lived through that once. A muslim spat in my face on the Tube because I was wearing a Star of David. No one intervened on my behalf. I took a picture as the angry muslim ranted at me and handed it to the Transport Police. They couldn't have been less interested.

It's not only black people who are subjected to this kind of sh1t, but really, you have to keep some perspective. No one seems willing to think the old nutter on the aeroplane is anything other than a vile racist, when he probably just hates everyone.

very sorry to hear that and tbh thats open my eyes because I didn't think Jewish people still went through stuff like that. I only mentioned black people because theres so many cases of black people reporting getting racially abused in public and people are telling them that they're either lying or exaggerating the incident and seeing racism where it's not there. Also I hope you don't think my post was directed just at you...

I'm sure that old guy probably hate a lot of different types of people and is probably every phonic you can imagine... however in this instance he attacked this woman because of her race and the staff seemed to care more about keeping him happy than protecting the woman... I just find getting into the hypothetical mental issues this man may have to be an attempt to shift responsibly from him and takes the victimhood from the woman making the incident seem like 'just one of those things'.... to me its kind of like when the media try to get into the tough upbringing and school life of someone who's just committed something terrible like a terrorist attack or a school shooting...

Thanks Armand, and no I didn't think for a minute any of your posts were directed at me personally. And of course I can see where you're coming from. I'm just saying that the man in the video is clearly a dick. And the woman, being of the Windrush generation has probably heard it all from people even more stupid than he. And there should definitely be consequences for him and some kind of recompense for her. I think the staff looked more like they were trying to calm a nutter so that things didn't escalate, rather than them pandering to him. That's just my perception of course.

Anyhoo, we both agree the man was in the wrong and that the woman was the innocent victim, I am in no way trying to minimise what he said or how it affected her.

Re the Jewish thing... most people don't think stuff like that happens to Jews anymore. The truth is though that antisemitic attacks are at an all-time high in the UK right now. And based on community size, Jews suffer more attacks than any other group. And it's the same kind of people attacking us who attack black people and anyone different from them: idiots full of hate and with very little education.

who are "they" and lots and lots of people have dementia and have not been diagnosed, usually people who live alone as its partners who notice and make them attend a GP

any way he has stated he is not a racist full time, just when he loses his temper

Lady calling in now saying he sounds like he has mental health issues and that when people suffer from such things as dementia just like with Tourettets Racist things tend to come to the fore

she is speaking as a person with experience with mental health

the lady is black herself (and gave some examples like this incident)

The man will NOT BE PROSECUTED

After a four-month UK police probe, Mirror Online has revealed that the investigation has been shelved because lawyers ruled the offence can only be prosecuted in Spain.

Ehhhhrrrrmmm OK so...

The things he said are totally unacceptable and the distress it's caused this woman shouldn't be underestimated. That part should go without saying, really. I also think it was handled badly by Ryanair in the sense that the squabbling should never have been allowed to continue for anywhere NEAR as long as it did and a member of staff should have stepped in as soon as voices were raised.

That out of the way...

I think it's not only possible, but actually fairly obvious, that this fellow is not playing with a full deck and early stage dementia is a very real possibility here, not just a random excuse. I would also say it looks to me that there's a potential alcohol issue here which would open up the possibility of Korsakoff, but of course that's an assumption purely based on his demeanor and appearance. Either way I find it fairly evident that he's not mentally 100% well.

I also think the idea that everyone on the flight should be delayed by 6 hours to remove him is actually laughable. Just no.
