Following the box office success of Halloween, it now looks like Friday the 13th is set to get a reboot.
According to Bloody Disgusting, talks are under way between LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment and IT producers Vertigo Entertainment to create a new instalment of the Jason Voorhees franchise.
Halloween's performance at the box office proves there's still a (worryingly?) strong appetite for the slasher genre, with the film raking in over $77 million in its opening weekend in North America alone.
It's the biggest ever debut for a horror film with a female lead, and also the biggest ever debut for a film with a female lead over the age of 55.
The film also has the second highest opening ever for an October release, with Venom setting the record earlier in the month.
The popularity of Halloween has no doubt inspired the Friday the 13th reboot, but another reason it's likely to go ahead is because the original writer Victor Miller has regained the rights to the screenplay.
That said, the reboot is still in the early stages and doesn't yet have a writer or director.
The original 1980 horror film was set at the fictional Crystal Camp Lake and saw a group of young counsellors picked off one-by-one by Jason's mother, who was enacting her revenge on the youngsters after her son drowned at the camp while none of them were watching him.
