Simpsons has been on TV for almost 30 years !!! . Longer if you include the short clips from the Tracy Ullmen show .

Why is Apu who is just a character of many on a comedy cartoon all of a sudden classed as racist?? :crazy: :facepalm: . All the characters are tongue in cheek . Non of them are about being accurate and I don't find any of them offensive.

TBH Maru Simpsons was meant to end when it reached season 25 supposedly . But now they're on season 30 i think :rolleyes: . They are definitely running out of ideas and it has run it's course . And they're really milking it now.

When i think of episodes that have really made me laugh , or storyline's that have been well written it's usually the much older seasons from 1 - 10 . But i still think the outcry over the character Apu is ridiculous when he's a loved character and not to be taken seriously .

But i don't understand why garbage shows like South Park still keep churning out new episodes :facepalm: .

Straying from canon doesn't really have to do with decline persay (though that's the title of the YT). It has to do with how much the newer episodes follow the original Simpsons universe... which was very firmly established in the first few seasons. The last time I watched, much of what the characters were saying and doing made 0 sense from those first seasons. So I would say it has changed shape entirely and is now a completely different show. So yeah, my thought was they will wreck Apu, but is it really a more radical change than some of the other things they've done on the show? Probably not actually.

Family guy took off around the time the Simpsons were introducing more radical/parodistic changes to the model. So it never took itself seriously at all. The same can be said about South Park. Though South Park was in that "cool" medium-rare zone of US cartoons that was on the fringes at the time. Where it wasn't quite vulgar enough that it was Beavis&Butthead-y (which was cancelled at the time), but still vulgar enough to appeal to the older Millenials. US shows are becoming less censorship-heavy, so there's not really a niche for vulgar/outrageous anymore. It used to be if a show was not "family-friendly" enough, it was petitioned until it was pulled off the air in the States. Now that pull is in the other direction... how dare it not break norms, etc...
