[An enormous effigy of Boris Johnson having his cake and eating it will go up in flames at an annual bonfire celebration.]

easy pick.
Might as well. Politics brings out the ugly in just about anyone these days.
Admittedly, that's a pretty terrible looking... doll? Looks like a 3d painting.

It barely even looks 3D, it just looks like a huge cardboard cutout.
Still, if it gives them pleasure...

Oop, bet the snowflakes are offended again

Yeah, I thought it was 2D at first, until I realized there's something installed behind the hand and the face is "floating"... but you're right. It looks crappy. Kill it with fire I guess.

Of course it does. It's an effigy, it's gonna get burned.

Yay paint fumes
I have to say though, the touch on the cake where it says "FU" instead of EU is pretty witty

Burning the guy was always political. Don't see why this should offend. Seems a little childish, but whatever floats their boat.

it's a tradition, going back decades if not longer
in some places they always burn a current hate figure
nothing to do with the deterioration in public discourse brought by alt right

Similarly, I have a fair few candidates I wouldn't waste a match on.
You're safe... so long as you keep providing the eye candy via your avi...

I've just bought a couple of bags of marshmallows for Saturday night and they're as big as my fist. I wonder if they will all survive intact all the way to Saturday.

No, I lost interest in BB I'm afraid. Is Lewis the one at the centre of the Auschwitz/Outfits controversy?

Yes. He followed it up with impersonating Hitler and saying "kill the Jews"
which he saw as ridiculing his original slip, i.e. a joke
that's the line his fans take too, plus freedom of speech
others (incl. me) argue it was not funny and could be seen as hate speech

Oh... more than I originally thought then. Well, I suppose even after that my reaction would be the same. I wrote a post about it, even though I hadn't seen it:
Anti-Semitism is at an all-time high in the UK. There are hundreds of attacks every year with more going unreported. Synagogues have had swastikas spray painted on them, graves have been desecrated, an 11 year old boy was chased and beaten by other kids shouting stuff like "Hitler was ****ing awesome"... In the USA 11 Jews have just been slaughtered while attending a baby naming ceremony at their synagogue.... And some people I talk to are unaware of the current situation.
Wouldn't it be more helpful, if he did make an anti-Semitic comment, to keep him in the house and ask the housemates to have a conversation about what was said and what it means? Rather than brush it under the carpet?
Trouble is, it's difficult to know if he is actually an anti-Semite or just a plain old, common or garden dickhead.

thank you, don't think i saw your post att
my money is on him being a dick rather than anti-Semite, but I do understand why Ch5 would shy away from all this, especially as the US synagogue killings happened at the same time and their disinterest in the programme's future

Jeez, I hadn't heard all that ... A mangled pronunciation of outfits sounding like Auschwitz? That alone I'd be cautiously forgiving of. But if that happens you call yourself an idiot, pretend to put your false teeth back in, and say the sentence properly.
Unless you're Basil Fawlty, don't impersonate Hitler, and just don't say "kill the Jews" even if you're "joking".

LT likes hot catholics, is anyone surprised
When I think effigies, I usually think scarecrow looking things. They look more foreboding imo. But my memory may not be on trend. Admittedly, I only commented because of the artistic aspect... it looks too silly to be damning. It's kind of cute... in an ugly way.
