In the Malaysian state of Sabah there are no Sumatran rhinos left in the wild, the Environment Minister says.

The eastern Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis harrissoni), also known as the Bornean rhino, is the world’s smallest rhino. It’s a subspecies of the Sumatran rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) and is a shy and solitary creature that inhabits Bornean forests.

Poaching and deforestation behind their extinction
Or better, it used to inhabit. In fact, according to Environment Minister Masidi Manjun, there are no Sumatran rhinos left in the wild in the Malaysian state of Sabah. About 50 rhinos lived there in 2008, five years later there were only ten individuals left, and today they’re likely to be extinct.

The decline of this species is mainly linked to two factors: poaching for rhino horns (the horn actually doesn’t have any medical properties, contrary to many people’s beliefs), and habitat loss due to deforestation, mainly carried out to make place for oil palm plantations and human settlements.

I expect by the end of century most species will live only in zoos, especially big animals that "compete" with humans for space or are worth more dead than alive

That is really sad and it was so needless, greedy humans destroying a habitat and killing them for stuff we do not need,:bawling::bawling:

I am reding the book https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1420585954l/23692271.jpg

The chapter I am on is about the devasting affect man had on N and S America like 10,000 years ago to large land mammals like the 6m tall Sloth!(when man arrived in an area their days were numbered) and to the huge land mammals of Australia like the Marsupial lion.

Its been going on for a wee while

essentially any animal with a long gestation period and only maybe one or two offsping are always under threat

If we don't do something about our out-of-control population growth, I'm not sure that by the end of the century, we'll be able to feed everyone; even if we continue to devastate habitats, pollute the oceans and slaughter wildlife, all the time congratulating ourselves on how clever we are.

The biggest danger is the uncontrolled population rise in Africa

that is the REAL danger in this and the next gen lifetime for animals and the planet
