There is now whole article about how rough this selection journey was. Bigger artists are afraid of doing UMK/Eurovision, and there is also problem with the record companies because they are not interested of going international. They said they did their everything to get a big name to UMK this year.

They talked with Isac Elliot, Antti Tuisku, Sunrise Avenue, Robin and The Rasmus for example, but either artist or the manager said no.

majority of these finnish artists who i not even know feel too good to represent their country at eurovision


selection was tough, they gave Darude all power of choosing his 3 songs, so far he came with 2 quite decent EDM bops

Sergey Lazarev for Russia can be up for at least a good bop, he did have that in 2016

Serhat for san marino, revealed his song will be more uptempo, bit in the big band/swing sort of style i heard songs like that from him before, he's quite good at that :)

At the moment, of the songs I like (somewhat, or a lot), I would rank them thusly:

1) Italy - just... has star power, to me.
2) Norway - great stuff
3) Switzerland - I want to rim him this is a BANGER, why aren't y'all stanning?
4) Cyprus - not QUITE on Fuego's level but pretty damn close
5) Azerbaijan - they've had a few dud years lately but they seem to finally back on form... this is current, catchy, has a good beat and still has some eccentricities about it
6) Austria - definitely my slow-burner of the year, this could easily become a favourite of mine. Something very fka twigs about it.
7) Iceland - I have absolutely no idea what's going on here but I am entertained. Pretty sure it'll get slaughtered by juries but it's great.
8) Russia - it's nice! good voice! but go away russia!
9) Estonia - a lovely avicii tribute
10) Greece - her voice is pretty unique, and it's definitely polished, but doesn't quite grab me the way the above songs did
11) Belgium - it's perfectly fine
12) San Marino - ok the music video is a hysterical "2008 Alesha Dixon visual effects" throwback but I love it?
13) Netherlands - quite nice, might need a few more listens to click though
14) Czechia - I like the vibe but the chorus is pants
15) Sweden - it's fine but really...not good at all
16) Belarus - bless her
17) Denmark - something about it but not sure there's enough
18) UK - it's ok but not good enough
19) Ireland - cute but bland

Netherlands has a good song, but I think that Russia will win as his song is better this time imo.

A lot of the songs sound quite good this year, I miss my Metal Rock entry, but overall a solid line-up, even Spain's song has a catchy chorus that I can't get out of my head.
