We binged this on Netflix over the last 3 days. Its actually really good for low-key trash! Basically Dan from Gossip Girl finally goes full creep and stalks / kills some folks.
It is legit a good watch though. Randomly very funny at times too (though it's not a comedy; I'd say knowingly funny in the way that Bates Motel was on occasion).

I actually think there were a lot of Dexter nods / inspiration but LT the point was that he was NOT tidy or efficient like Dexter, he was actually a total mess and left a tonne of physical and DNA evidence in every single one of his kills :joker:. There was no reasonable way he was going to get away with any of it until Dr Nicky was framed, because at that point they stopped investigating it seems... but the P.I. is clearly still going to have an eye on him.
That said I think (and have seen interviews with the author / show writers) you are supposed to sort of root for Joe, even though he is objectively a violent sociopath. He's supposed to be a likeable character who unfortunately is psychotically jealous and stalkery and kills people .

Really? Oh god no, he absolutely doesn't come across as likeable in any way. If they were trying to emulate Dexter in that way then they failed miserably (except with Lt :p ) Dexter had a code, he didn't go round stalking people because he fancied them or stealing their underwear etc The people that Dexter focused on were actual murderers who'd gotten away with it :nono:

Not emulate Dexter but still Dexter-inspired... like an incompetent Dexter with no code :joker:.
Basically, imagine that instead of being raised by an experienced detective who knew how to cover up a crime and had a solid moral code, Dexter had been raised by an abusive book shop owner. That's how you end up with Joe :joker:. Important to remember that Dexter didn't kill people BECAUSE they were murderers, he killed people because it was the only way to satisfy the uncontrollable urge to kill, and so he sought out murderers as his victims because that was better than trying to resist completely (as he couldn't, and WOULD have ended up killing innocent people).

Regardless, I doubt Dexter would have turned into a creepy knicker sniffing stalker like Joe :idc: Also, Joe killed people when he backed himself into a corner, none of them were actually planned

I think you could argue that Benji was (somewhat) planned, just not thought through. The rest were definitely more impulse kills, he even tried to declare Peach's death "self-defence". Though TBF Peach was clearly intended as the only-marginally-more-sane female counterpart to Joe and probably had some Beck underwear stashed somewhere too :joker:.

I think he was fairly content with the video evidence of the drowning being enough to keep him safe, but he got the idea in his head that (ironically) Beck wasn't "safe" with Benji around, though probably the real motivation was that he didn't think Beck would move on if Benji was still kicking around, even if he broke contact with her.

Has anyone finished season 2 yet? I’ve just got 2 episodes to go.
This season is just as good as the first, full of twists and you never know where the plot is going. Very easy to watch. It’s an easy to watch show and if you don’t take it too seriously it’s brilliant.
The use of a new girl and Candace makes it more exciting than the first series imo.

I enjoyed season 2 a lot, especially the side plots like Henderson, Delilah and Ellie.
However...I figured out Love was an utter psycho pretty early on, I suspected she killed her ex but that was a bit of a red herring but as soon as Joe found Delilah dead I knew Love had killed her because she was jealous.
I think if anything the more minor characters were the highlights of the season (LOVED Delilah) but Love and her brother were soooooo annoying and hard to even care about wheras Beck from season 1 was actually really well acted and written so easy to root for, that was sorely missing in my opinion this season. Candace was also massively under used.

Yeah Fourty was a pretty annoying character. I like Love but I feel for series 3 she's going to settle because she's having the baby. Hopefully it's Joes baby and not that aussie guy. Where Joe is continuously dark. I thought Joe probably won't have an affair. He's got the love of his life but meh. Seems like our Joe might get bored easily. Naughty boy x

I disagree with most of this. Beck was awful in season one and completely unrootable, and unbelievably annoying. I’ve not met anyone in life that liked her and most wanted her killed off :skull:
Love was a far better character, and far more rootable. It was only until the last episode where opinions changed on her. Forty was also perfect for the show and added a lot of other elements.
I think the side characters were good also - and candace was underused as she bought the best plot lines imo - the episode forty bought her to meet the parents was probably the best one

A mixture actually, but not murderers like Dexter... he mostly kills people who are inconvenient to him personally, but...
In S1 he kills his neighbour's boyfriend, who is abusing her and her son, because he's befriended the son... and in S2 he kills a Hollywood producer type guy who has been drugging and taking pictures of teenage girls (accidentally, whilst holding him prisoner). Again because he's befriended a young girl who is the guy's "latest target"
So basically he doesn't kill "because he wants to" and doesn't seem to get any enjoyment out of it... but he does get rid of people because he thinks it's "necessary". He's definitely a villain, not an anti-hero :joker:.
Thanks guys
