Maybe he should have stayed in Miami.

he was riding his motorbike at 5 am and just happened to come across a gay hating gunman who recognised him on a moving motorbike and in a split instant decided to kill him?

It's more likely, as Arista pointed out, that he was specifically targeted and the gunman was watching him than a random gunman just decided to go out and shoot a stranger at 5am.....imo anyway

You don't put your head above the parapet in some countries yet unfortunately, maybe he thought being a rapper would exclude him, young life snuffed out

I doubt the gunman has made his motive public so it could be for other reasons like drugs or debt I suppose
It's a genre of music associated with hate, violence, crime and drugs. The guy was controversial. It doesn't excuse what happened to him, but no-one is safe if they play with fire.

it doesn't need to be a hate crime at all, recently here in my country also a rapper shot dead Feis or Faisal Messyeh, who had debts with the criminal underworld
and it happens so often that the criminals here assassinate each other
Caution

You’d constitute being gay as ‘playing with fire’?

Puerto Rico is probably one of the more liberally-minded and vibrantly gay parts of the US
The area has apparently already had 22 homicides in the first 9 days of January, so I don't think it's a 'gay thing'. An FBI official recently declared that the island is facing a “crisis of violence.”
RIP to the guy, though.
