[Daily Mirror's headline, above a picture of the Australian TV artist and presenter - a convicted child sex offender - in front of a school hall.
The paper says he wandered onto a school site to talk to a sculptor who was working in the grounds, before being told to leave by the headteacher. ]

His crimes are for sexual offenses against girls over the age of 14. Again of course, not defending him or saying that his crimes aren't serious - he was found guilty on several counts of sexual assault on minors and some on adults, too - but it's also damaging for tabloids to inaccurately throw the term "paedophile" around inaccurately when actual paedophiles exist.
Thus, its also unlikely that he was near a primary school suddenly seeking to perv at children. However it is obviously inappropriate for him to be there anyway.
Aren't people on the sex offenders register restricted on places they can go, with schools being off limits?

Well police appear to be saying he has not broken the law but either way what ever did he think he was doing ? waving at the kids as if he was still a liked personality , the bloke is in cloud cuckoo land and still clearly believes he did nothing wrong.

Well he is 88, there's a good chance he literally is.

It was 2014 when he was convicted. I too was thinking "is he not out a bit early? Didn't he get like 5 years so should have been in for at least 2.5?" then I looked it up and now I'm spiraling down a pit of existential dread at how quickly time is moving these days. I mean how was the Rolf Harris thing 5 years ago??? I remember it being maybe 18 months ago :umm2:.
[edit]
Wikipedia says he served 3 years and got out in 2017.

Maybe so, but schools' doors are open before and after the children are there. If he wanted to collect the wood, he should have popped in early morning/late afternoon.

how has need not been deported? Both of his parents are British and up until the mid 80's, anyone born in Australia to British parents automatically had British citizenship. He was born in something like the 1930's.
So basically he's legally as British as anyone born here.
