Yeah people might have tuned out, but not many did. My great aunt for example vowed she'd never watch again after like week 3, and still tuned in each week after saying Gemma ruined it.

Besides, you're forgetting Gemma isn't just a TOWIE star. She's made a name for herself in other ways - and the amount of people tuning out now will be much higher than the amount tuning out because of her appearance.

It may appear to be not as high, but factor in those who are tuning back in as they did stop watching as well.

DOI didn't have great ratings last year anyway, and were much better this year. Katie and Nikki as you mentioned had their respective controversies during the peak of the shows. DOI had its peak before it was axed.

She could've easily had another rant, or kicked off, or refused to skate off, or anything but she took it like a professional, did her best and accepted the result. I don't get why people are still bitter over her. She was never gonna win and neither were anyone who left so far so what's wrong with her staying a few extra weeks over people who were going to leave anyway :joker:

I know of a lot of people that wouldn't come back because of Katie Waissel, and to a lesser extent Cher Lloyd as they just didn't like them, were they the sole factors as to why series 8 lost ratings throughout it's run? No, but I do find it interesting that despite the show could pull in 19 million viewers on special occasions in series 7 that series 8 couldn't get anywhere near that number at any point during it's own series and it wasn't like there wasn't any talented acts in the line-up of series 8.

TXF made a few botch ups during series 7 & 8 that killed the franchise, but I do think that it starts with saving Katie 4 times over more talented acts that didn't help as the general public do care about a singing contest remaining a singing contest and the judges not saving the more talented acts over Katie made the masses lose trust with the show, and then series 8 declaring contestants as bullies probably made things even worse for themselves.

DOI was stuck between a rock and a hard place last night that was partly of their own making, where it was between the significantly weaker skater versus the more unpopular with the public and been in the bottom two three times skater, whoever they picked to save was gonna upset a lot of people as there was valid reasons as to why both should leave, and I'm personally thinking that overall Ryan is less hated than Gemma so will probably have made the right decision for themselves, but we'll see.

I'm no Kem or Wes fan, but they're at least taking part in the series trying to do decent performances every week, Gemma just did joke act Diva routines every week with no effort to try and get better, they're not comparable imo.
