Based on a true story, two eps in and its very compelling
Debra Newell has a perfect life -- from the outside -- she's successful, beautiful and lives in Newport Beach, one of California's most desirable coastal cities. The only thing missing from her life is love, so when she meets the charismatic, handsome and charming Dr. John Meehan, she is swept off her feet in a whirlwind romance. Her daughters, Terra and Veronic, set out to prove that he's just a conman after they are displeased at the fast-tracked relationship and decide to investigate their mother's new beau for themselves. As Debra gets drawn deeper into his lies, the psychological manipulation has consequences for the entire family.

I almost clicked on this last night before realising it's a series and decided I can't be arsed with another one.
But if it's worth it, maybe. Keep us informed Chez. :smug:

Given this is a true story the ending is up there with the best of fiction
Binge watched most of it on Friday night only have a couple left.
Really enjoyed it, it got good really quick too rather than bring dragged out.

So this is a limited series and isn't going to be spun out for six seasons?
:clap1: I'll give it a watch!

Halfway through this. Better than I was expecting.
It looked like one of those soft-porn thrillers when I first saw it advertised. :hehe:
I can't decide whether Debra's mother is an older actress playing younger in the flashbacks or younger and playing older in the present scenes. :joker:

Could you not have put that in spoilers?
Ah, but then he doesn't get the attention he craves.

Yeah I liked that about it as well, it galloped along, and the story was interwoven with the flashbacks

I'm on episode 5 and really surprised at how quickly the plot moves along.
I was expecting some drawn out story of them slowly getting together and then him being exposed in the last 1 or 2 episodes.

How accurate is the show?
If the main events, outline of the plot are all from the true story then that Debra woman is INFURIATING.
On episode 5 and her decisions ASTOUND ME.

Sorry to those that saw me reveal the ending, but in my defence it was just in a national news paper and like most films based on the truth you nearly always know the story before you watch the film.

I didn't know anything about it and never saw the story in any paper, so I was glad I had fully watched it before you commented.

Did anyone else find the scene where the grandmother told the kid that his mum was dead really strange?
She was like "Hi honey. Your dad has shot and killed your mother, and she is dead. Ok, you watch some TV! K!"

The age of the daughters confused me so many times too. I thought the younger one was a small child at one stage, wondering why she lived apart from her mother.
