Just give us the Star or fella's Name will you?
[Fern Britton has revealed she was
sexually assaulted by a man
in a lift after a showbiz interview.
The TV presenter, 61, said the attack
happened when she was working
for Television South (TVS) in the late
1980s and early 1990s.
Britton, who presented
This Morning for 10 years until her
departure in 2009, said the man
started kissing her after she interviewed him.
She told the Daily Mirror:
"I remember doing a television show
when I worked for TVS. I was in a lift
with a man I'd just interviewed.
"He suddenly jumped me and started
snogging me. I asked him what on earth
he thought he was doing.
But it didn't seem to shame him into stopping.]

Why only come out with it now
There are thousands of women that have been sexually assaulted and not reported it, what has Fern done to make her statement not credible?

Why only come out with it now
Why is this always the question that's asked, like it somehow disproves the story? back in the 80's (and yes LT I was born back then :p ) She probably would have been sacked/laughed at/told she should be flattered.

She hasn't had a career for 10 years and why is public before police

Maybe she isn't planning to go to the Police, how would she even prove it?

or the story is untrue and she is saying it is for attention
both alternatives are plausible without the mans name so he can put his side of the story forward

Maybe it is untrue, but it's not an unbelievable story at all, believe me, as a woman, it's only too believable.
(there was a lot of believables in that sentence)
Niamh.

That's so true though. If a man came out and said they'd been sexually assaulted by either another man or woman, I guarantee no one would doubt it

Probably true, just back in those days we didn’t really consider it as sexual assault as it was so common :fist:
Thankfully we have moved on and people realise that women ( and men) are not there for you to help yourself too.

you and the op said that this is more common than most people think
how do you know and what makes you different than most people?
its a simple question, dont be defensive about it
I am curious
Around 4/5 cases of sexual assault go unreported. And of the 1/5 that are reported to the police, only around 1/20 of those lead to arrest.
Open your mind, or just do a quick google search. Whichever suits you.

This...
Also if you've ever been through a court case with a loved one or friend that has come to court, you'll know that the defense team will paint you as the one in the wrong. I went through a rape case with a family member, being with her when she reported it, through the rape crisis centre, photographing her injuries to the court case where the defense painted her as a slut who was asking for it, dragging up previous partners but not the guys history. After the case she said given her time over she wouldn't report it and would advise others not to....the stigma, abuse and trauma is not worth it. That's one of the main reasons women don't bother.....and it does happen too often.

Don't get cheeky
Your stats have no bearing on whether this is true or not.
It's her word, no name has been given, just anecdotal claims

Don't understate my contribution to this thread, I wasn't being "cheeky". You wanted proof for Mont's claim, so there's your proof. No, it cannot alone suggest that what she is saying is true, but could serve as a likely reason as to why, if it was true, she had not said anything at the time, or why she has refrained from going into more detail about it.
Fine, my stats have no bearing. But neither do your claims that she's only saying this now because she is desperate. That's just guesswork.

Your stats prove nothing , her baseless claim so far on, naming noone does more harm than good.
My guess is she did not bother about it, and her career was far more important. Now, looking back it's different, but it's just that, lookin back
Easy game that

She would have literally nothing to gain from making a story up and not naming the falsely accused directly.

She never claimed the stats proved anything.
You asked for more information on mont's claim that assault/harassment is "more common than a lot of people realise" nothing to do with proving whether Fern Britton's claim is true or not.
You're climbing a very high horse with your requests for proof and statistics despite only offering "desperate" as your own response to the story.

Obviously no one knows if it’s for real but i can certainly believe it.
Specially back then.
She wouldn’t be coming out with it now if she wasn’t going to reveal the name.Maybe it’ll be in a book or an exclusive with a paper or mag in the near future.

Yes, she would. It's a huge conversation now, allowing people to discuss their own experiences.
I highly doubt she's going to put any names in the press now as it's unlikely anything can be proven 30 years on.

Maybe the culprit has died?
