That's it. She's been removed. What a rubbish way to go. Lesley just read out the notice - it was her unacceptable behaviour.

It was just on the live feed, she said some thing that they considered would offend the viewers and the chucked her out.

It was one of the Jade Gobby rules they must have introduced.

Lesley read out a statement from BB - unacceptable behaviour apparently, possibly causing serious offence on the grounds of race!!

They are talkin about it now but I don't think the housemates know the exact details either!!

Wonder what she said... prpbably won't find out, ither, cos Channel 4 will be in trouble again if they aired it.

I'm quite pleased she's gone, actually. I was going to vote to get her out anyway, after that Emily vs Ziggy argument on last night's show. Ziggy didn't deserve that... she lied and tricked him!

In my opinion, it should have been her and her only to recieve punishment from Big Brother... not Ziggy as well!

I think even if what she said was said in a joking manner it can still be seen as racist and big brother want to win the public back therefore doing this is a step up for them.

I don't think anyone can judge yet. I don't think it was pathetic at all - a racist comment is just not on. According to the news, apparently it is far too bad to air on the news itself. But there's a possibility it will be shown tonight, and they need legal advice and everything.

BBC

"Emily Parr has been removed from the Big Brother house for using a racially offensive word to another housemate.
The 19-year-old from Bristol was taken out of the compound at 0330 BST and was forbidden from having any further contact with the 11 other contestants.

This week's eviction vote has been cancelled - Emily was nominated along with Shabnam Paryani.

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said that the decision had been taken because "such behaviour won't be tolerated". "

That depends how bad it was - do the viewers have a right to see it, etc. Either way I can't see it being much of a problem.

There are rumours flying around now that her comments "Are you pushing it out you n****r?" are from a rap song...probably Emily fans trying to save her in some way. I think Charley didn't take it as racist though but others would quickly jump on the word and make it into a huge thing.

Bells

Charley wasn't offended by it apparently, neither was Nicky - but they were completely shocked. And when they went out together, Emily wouldn't leave them alone - probably because she didn't want them to discuss it. I just want to know exactly what it is before people make assumptions.

Whether she meant it in a racist way or not makes little difference to what was going to happen to her. This is a girl who gives herself 10/10 for intelligence and yet she failed to realise that anything with the slightest racist overtones would be jumped upon by BB. After the mess in CBB, anyone with sense would know just to stay away from anything racially related while in the house. Even saying something as a joke or in the heat of the moment is just complete stupidity.

I thought she was going to be a clever, shrewd gameplayer. Instead she's just an idiot.:bored:

GabrielleisLove
07-06-2007, 09:49 AM
Definitely inappropriate. I don't think she's a racist; but, that word should never, ever be used by anyone. I'm glad she's been removed.

Mrluvaluva
07-06-2007, 09:51 AM
Channel 4 were obviously going to take anyone out of the house who used any racist terms. That was obvious after the controversy of CBB5. They had no alternative but to remove her. If they hadn't, there would be a public outcry.

Mrluvaluva
07-06-2007, 09:52 AM
Angela Jain, who heads Channel 4's Big Brother commissioning team, said: "In the wake of Celebrity Big Brother we must consider the potential offence to viewers regardless of Emily's intentions and her housemates' response.

"The word 'n**ger' is clearly racially offensive and there is no justification for its use. We have removed Emily from the house to once again make it clear to all housemates and the viewers at home that such behaviour won't be tolerated."

The incident will be aired as part of the Big Brother highlights show on Channel 4 at 10pm tonight.

Yep, you're right, she is braindead, she might be clever in an academic sense and know how to put big words together but as far as intelligence and insight go, she's stupid and has also proved herself to be ignorant. I feel sorry for anyone who still sees her as an idyllic housemate. Whether she's racist or not, she certainly hasn't matched up to her own opinion of herself.

Emily: Yeah and they call me *******. They call me wiggers as well.
Nicky: I'm quite shocked.
Charley: I'm ****ing in shock.
Emily: It's not a big deal though is it?
Charley: Not for us it ain't. **** me.

Why don't you post this in a seperate thread so members can see the transcript?

They might show a little bit simply to justify their ejection and not to keep us, the viewers, in the dark because we have a right to see it. We're what's keeping the show going, giving it all the publicity.

It doesn't matter. That word is a total no no. I thought she claimed to be intelligent? If she had half a brain, and trust me you only need half, then she'd know not to use that word. Good riddance to her.

I know the word is a bad one, I personally hate it. I have a mixed race cousin who was called that in school once.

I think it must have just slipped out of her mouth without thinking. But doesn't mean I'm condoning it because it is wrong, but we haven't seen any footage yet, so just wait until you judge. There is a transcript on this thread that seems fairly likely. She's shot herself in the foot. Personally, I don't think we'll see much footage I doubt C4 will bother showing it.

They are G. See the statement.

I don't really know. I was debating constantly against her last night, but it wasn't about racist behaviour so it's just thrown me off course a little. I suppose it's added greatly to my dislike of her, and makes me feel content with my judgement.

On launch night, the moment she claimed to be so intelligent I was at home shaking my head. Then there was the whole skinny jeans thing. She should have kept her mouth shut and let Charley talk herself out. Then there was the argument with Chanelle, and at that point I realised that there wasn't much between her ears.

In my opinion that word should never be used, even by black people. I realise that in America they use it in "jest" quite often in their films and music, but here we've taken a stand on it and know it causes offence to many, especially those who may have been bullied with the use of such words. I believe it's just respectful not to use these kinds of words, nothing to do with being PC at all. If something trivial that need not be said may offend someone, why say it in the first place?

yes because it's a joke. I agree that word shouldn't be said by anybody, but in her mind it was no big deal, so also in mine.

If a "joke" can't be said to certain people, then there's obviously something wrong with it. We can laugh without resorting to hurting people's feelings.

we were all waiting for the information - now we have it the word she used was totally unacceptable. I would have expected to be ejected from the house had I said that to another person. I am with Girth on this when do you draw the line and say enough is enough and become non-tolerant of this kind of thing.

Fanboy_Luke

My opinion:

Only a middle class person would be ignorant enough to make this mistake. I know a few m/c girls who try and be 'urban' by calling each other "n*gga" which I find cringeworthy.

If she's called one of the white girls "n*gga" it would have gone unnoticed.

If it wasn't for this years CBB it would have only been a warning.

If it had been homophobic language used rather than racist no-one would have batted an eyelid.

It is possible to use racist language without being racist. Same as with homophobia.

Emily has screwed up her chances big time but IMO she is guilty of ignorance rather than biggotry so I don't think she deserves the hatred she will get.

Seeing as I'm a straight white bloke I'm hardly an authority on this so if I'm talking rubbish feel free to tell me.

People don't know where they stand with the word because half of the black community embrace it and the others despise it. Obvioulsly the intellegent thing to do as a caucasian is to play it safe and leave the word alone. If, as it says earlier in the thread that Charley had already reffered to herself as a "n*gga" in the house I can almost understand why Emily might have thought it was okay to say. She's made a major faux pas but I don't see how her trying to be cool makes her racist. The fact that she say her and her freinds use it all the time just shows how detatched from the real world she is. As I said before, a working class person with a bit more common sense and life experience would know that white people using the N word is rarely well recieved.

Arneldo

I think its disgusting what she said and truly deserved what she got.

I see where she is coming fro though. She said she used the word with her black friends, and maybe she thought she was close enough with Charley to use that word, but still she should have been smart enough to know not to use the word on national live television.

I was hoping for a series of fun and laughter but obviously not now. This is going to be hanging over the heads of the producers for ever and will have serious implications on the rest of the series.

Sorry for bringing this back up but what i don't get, and I'm sure somebody will tell me, is why is Emily getting "I'm shocked", "silly little girl" after she said "N-----" but when Jade said "Poppadom" she crucified!?

As a big BB fan I'm worried about the future of BB. Not only for this series but for following series. I'm hoping it doesn't have major changes in the way the series is edited, shown and taken in by viewers. I hope that BB isn't cancelled after this series - At the end of the day, every series is different, with different people and different story lines.

Emily is going to get a lost of hatred and stick for this. Not only for the rest of the series but this will effect her life. I hope she gets a chance to get her view across and to apologize.

Bells
07-06-2007, 01:24 PM
She probably will, but because she wasn't as famous as Jade (as I think I mentioned somewhere), people will drop it easier - luckily for her. Also, I still don't think it'll affect BB because of the way it was handled, and because it is popular with lots of viewers. Plus, because it happened in the early stages when there isn't even the full set of housemates, I am anticipitating a lot more to come so I wouldn't worry too much.

EDIT: Read the Channel 4 Statement/ transcript for what she said.

Jade was malicious and, from what I've heard, Emily was being matey with Charley. Anyways, for me the "poppadom" comment was just one of the nails in Jade's coffin. Bullying and jealosy were the major issues in the CBB5 fiasco rather than racism.
