There are tones of articles on this but I’ve picked this one
https://www.vox.com/2019/3/3/18248783/momo-challenge-hoax-explained
It was a complete hoax and everyone fell for it. Saw a thread on here talking about it so i thought I’d make this thread. Kinda shocking and hilarious how stuff like this can get perpetuated into massive proportions.

I said that ages ago
Out of all the articles and you pick the one that says this..
: This urban legend is "likely" little more than a hoax

It was supposedly linked with suicide ,is there any evidence anyone has harmed themselves or killed themselves because of momo?? .
Sounded a bit like fear mongering ,however I'm glad it raised awareness for kids to be more alert & safe online .
The momo image is freaky & disturbing to look at , and I wondered how it worked and thought some hacker was using the image to scare people ? .

It appears to have been an urban legend, however people ran with it and it was a self fulfilling prophecy..not sure I would say 'hoax' exactly as that implies it didn't actually happen to anyone, it did, just it was not some random internet stranger targetting random kids, it was people they knew. TS went into this in a bit of detail in the other thread.

Yeah it's basically the same as the "Killer Clown" thing. It went viral but was obviously untrue, but then (inevitably) kids everywhere started using Killer Clown pranks to scare the **** out of each other (sometimes as a joke on friends, sometimes to deliberately really scare people as a form of bullying).
Ironically, people freaking out about it so much that it ended up mainstream news is the REASON that it became an actual thing .
(But that school putting up big Momo posters is still brilliant :joker: )

I literally cannot think of one even slight reason they would think that was a good idea :umm2:
