LG6 is COMING monsters, and she is probably more adored by the GP than she ever has been  So what better time to rank each of her songs from the first eleven wig-snatching years of her career? (minus her jazz efforts)

Okay let's get this going!

84. Paper Gangsta // The Fame (track 12) // 2008
BUn9aBnUfyQ
Lowest-ranked The Fame track
Lowest-ranked non-single

Even if a song is cringeworthy, basic, or invokes any kind of negative emotion, it still won't go as low as a song that I have simply never connected with. That's the tea with Paper Gangsta... I've just never been able to get into it, and almost always skip it when I play The Fame.

There's potential here, but I find the song incredibly monotonous, and it just kind of trundles along with a repetitive beat and piano chord progression, as well as the same synths she uses throughout the album, but without any dynamism.

I can't even say this is typical first-album pop fodder. It's just an odd, forgettable track.

83. Grigio Girls // Joanne (track 12) // 2016
JvgB7yX7WV0
Lowest-ranked Joanne track

I feel a certain sense of guilt in ranking Grigio Girls second-last out of eighty-four damn songs. It has a beautiful sentiment, devoted to her friend Sonja who has since passed away, and other female pillars in her life, and the above video is a lovely homage for that.

However, I just find that despite the uplifting message of the song, the melody, production, and even Gaga's vocals manage to make Grigio Girls so uninspiring. I must praise the lyricism, but somehow I have never been able to connect with this song, and find it entirely skippable.

82. Brown Eyes // The Fame (track 13) // 2008
bBDOyJ70Leo

This performance on the Jonathan Ross Show is superior to the album version. Unlike Paper Gangsta, Brown Eyes is typical pop debut fodder, and I'm not here for it. It's a sickly-sweet, prepubescent heartbreak song, and I just find it kinda hard to stomach. Even for a first outing, this is an incredibly weak ballad by Gaga's standards.

This may cause fumes, but BBB does very little for me. It's a fun, cute little track, and again, typical pop debut shtick, but the best elements of BBB are embodied on far better songs elsewhere on The Fame. BBB for me is just part of the middle-late portion of The Fame that I find really sub-par.

Lowest-ranked Born This Way track

On Born This Way, an album filled with abstract concepts and experimental production, Americano feels right at home. It's just...it's not much fun to listen to. I like the concept, but I've never really enjoyed listening to it. AaAaAaAah...AMERICAAA...AMERICANOoOoOoO honestly hurts my ears a bit, and I always feel a sense of relief when the song ends with the gunshot and Hair begins.

79. The Cure // non-album single // 2017
ccSGrQ6axcE
Lowest-ranked single

I remember waking up on that April morning in 2017 and being both stunned and frilled that Gaga had debuted a new single at Coachella. I adored the breezy, summer sound, and thought it was like nothing she'd done before. I had it on repeat for days, I even had it on loop for my 5k in the park :skull: It was also nice for Gaga to have a single with longevity in the UK after PI/MR totally failing at that - The Cure lingered around number 20 for six or seven weeks. However, within weeks I was bored. And here I am, two years later, and for me it's a bottom-ten Gaga song, and certainly the worst single she's released.

Apparently it's a reject from ASIB, but without the narrative and story that each song from the ASIB soundtrack obviously has, The Cure is completely vapid and dull. It's not even a good song, I can't lie. The chorus is very trudgey, the lyrics are excruciatingly plain, and the sample of her near-whistle tone singing that repeats through the chorus is annoying.

I just don't know what she was trying to do here... The Joanne era was going smoothly, so I guess it was just a gift to the fans, and a taste of things to come from the ASIB era. But as a Gaga single, it feels completely devoid of soul.

Jewels N Drugs is probably the biggest damn mess in Gaga's career but it's good fun. I just can't take it seriously as a 'good song'. I still don't know if she's really saying "slap honey on a young pancake" ?????

I honestly don't have much to say about JnD. The production is bombastic... the track is quite a ride. But I'm quite happy to discard it in my bottom 10.

She proved with this track her Artpop really CAN mean anything https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQQQaWvQtxeQCiQNFurooKW4DmTff0ER mV4BLNhO_g3umhaAUF2

lkNyVurzJbY
The above video is a GOLDEN Gaga artefact of her performing this in 2006. Again Again is a cute little bonus track which rounds off The Fame. Her vocals are so lovely on this. I love the "when we were hooking up... yeah he'd never... LAST" line. Such a lovely little track. The only problem is it's just kind of forgettable, particularly as a closer to The Fame.

76. Teeth // The Fame Monster (track eight) // 2009
7wUKcC4mir8
Lowest-ranked The Fame Monster track

This is a very inventive track; the cannibalistic imagery is very in-keeping with the Monster theme of the album, and the production/melody is very unlike any other song by her. Teeth however just doesn't stack up to the other The Fame tracks. Of the non-single TFM tracks, Monster is a fully-fledged BOP, Speechless has honestly kind of forged itself into a 'single' and SHICD is ecstasy, and Teeth doesn't do the same thing for me. It's just a kind of novelty track tacked on the end of an otherwise iconic body of work.

DDt_oagItBM
This is probably the last track I don't care for that much. Electric Chapel is atmospheric, sure, and very in-keeping with the general sound of Born This Way, but it's just so much less iconic, memorable. The guitar and bass is pretty cool, but I just find it quite monotonous. In a similar kind of thing to Boys Boys Boys, I just feel that the components of Electric Chapel are done better on different BTW tracks.

I've bopped to I Like It Rough, I bop to her now, and I will continue to bop to her! One of Gaga's many iconic masturbation bops. It's so easy to scream along to! It does, however, sound a wee bit dated, and that is why it comes out now.

73. Donatella // ARTPOP (track 10) // 2013
qMZjcLd-9t8
Donatella is easy to listen to, but my GOD the lyrics are... not her best. Someone pointed out that she transitioned from singing about LGBT empowerment to...
"Walk down the runway, but don’t puke
It’s okay
You just had a salad today
Boulangerie
Just ask your gay friends their advice
Before you...
Get a spray tan on holiday
In Taipei"
Honestly what was she thinking http://www.jamspreader.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/tumblr_lojxbc0oKU1qltexzo2_500.gif

She said of the track "it’s about being a fearless female and not caring what people say about you – being proud of who you are and walking the walk no matter what. Maybe she’s a bitch, maybe she’s too skinny, maybe she’s too rich, maybe she’s too out there. Or, maybe she’s brilliant, maybe she’s intelligent, maybe she’s strong, maybe she’s everything, maybe she’s Donatella.” I don't think she quite captured that with the lyrical contents of Donatella.

That being said, it's a fun track, and it's just so ARTPOP.

FOG5XuMR7KE
Honestly, I really enjoy Disco Heaven. It perhaps verges a little on 'filler' compared to the rest of her discography, but it captures disco so effortlessly, and it's just such a breezy, feel-good track that is a nice way to round off The Fame.

I adore the spoken-word segment: "A line up for the dance/Yeah bring those fancy pants/Y'know there's disco in the air/And hairspray everywhere" https://media.giphy.com/media/3oriO6aWPZiTqV6nAc/giphy.gif

71. Heal Me // A Star Is Born (track 11) // 2018
DKLD0eqmFVg
Lowest-ranked A Star Is Born track

I don't mean to criticise Heal Me, with it being my lowest-ranked ASIB track. I just find it slightly less interesting and dimensional than the others... and in terms of the 'pop' tracks from the soundtrack, WDYDT and HBF are much more fun.

Honestly, Heal Me is a superior version of The Cure. And unlike The Cure, Heal Me actually comes with a story. It's the first song from the film where Ally has transitioned to a popstar, and it has a melancholic undertone, because for me this is where the decline of Jackson and Ally's relationship begins.

The production is breezy and mellow... and "I wanna be more or equal, not less/I wanna feel happy with someone/I wanna feel blessed" is a MOMENT.

yhlmbezseJM
Diggin' My Grave is a brilliant, high-energy country-rock track. Gaga's screaming rockstar vocals are just a moment. Honestly, I wish she'd done something like this on Joanne. The problem is, DMG isn't as memorable as most other songs on the soundtrack - honestly, I wish this song had a bigger role in the film.

Lowest-ranked ARTPOP track

Angel Down has a lovely message, and the production really sets a scene. I honestly haven't played it much since the months after Joanne came out. Maybe some day I'll rediscover Angel Down, but right now, I have very little interest in it, and almost find it a bit twee.

68. Starstruck (feat. Space Cowboy and Flo Rida) // The Fame (track 7) // 2008
iHi_BnVkJn0
This is quite a unique cut on The Fame, and it honestly goes off. The bass and rap addition make for a track that is honestly so far from just about anything she's done since The Fame. The lyrics on this track are great - she's basically rap-singing.
It is a bit shallow compared to most of her other output though, and it leans towards sounding a bit dated.

67. Shallow (with Bradley Cooper) // A Star Is Born (track 6) // 2018
bo_efYhYU2A
Lowest-ranked lead single

Maybe taking out Shallow in 18th-last place is a tad harsh. It's an emotional, roaring ballad that is very simplistic but swells into a big moment. It's the pivotal song of the film, and has been Gaga's biggest hit in years and years. It's been a global phenomenon and I will always appreciate Shallow for that. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/963106431637922481/7D468F74F8CA11A5A9FAC5CDFC3DB8B195C3050D/

It's just that... I've got to be honest with myself, and the facts are, I would drag this song if it was released by Ed Sheeran (which honestly, it could have been), for being basic or whatever. Lyrically, there isn't a lot going on, and it's not the best ballad on the soundtrack by any measure. However, Gaga and Cooper do really put their own stamp on Shallow, and I guess for the GP, it just worked.

When I first got into the BTW album, Bloody Mary was one of my least favourites... I just didn't get it. I'm glad it did click with me eventually though, because it's quite the anthem. The chorus is just such a hook! It's still not my favourite BTW track by any stretch, but it's just a track that's kind of unique in terms of production and concept, yet fits so seamlessly into BTW.

To my mind, each song on Joanne for the most part explores some kind of theme, and on Hey Girl, sisterhood is central. It's a mellow throwback track with some great writing and stunning vocals.

It is slightly underwhelming for a song that brought together two music icons, and is probably one of my less favoured tracks on Joanne.

That being said, it's a completely unique cut from Gaga's discography, and an enjoyable one. I love when Gaga says "and then it's four AM...the sun is creeping up again... don't you leave me".https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e0/95/4b/e0954b01d5187d3c86901a88dd68f9d8.gif

Swine goes the **** off! It's certainly a... unique track. But it's just an absolute banger. Someone on the Gagadaily form said they like working out to it bc there's something 'oddly motivational' about Gaga screaming that you're a disgusting swine.
The drop is like nothing else on her discography. It's a very 2011, almost Dubstep bop, but perhaps nothing more.

NB: The above performance is a damn mess. :skull: When will... any other human? https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2014-03/enhanced/webdr07/14/0/anigif_enhanced-28673-1394770403-1.gif

o9iQ8lIfyEs
John Wayne is one of only two truly upbeat songs on Joanne. It took me a while to get John Wayne when Joanne came out, but it's just such a good time. From the dialogue when the track begins to the exhilerating chorus it's just such an enjoyable track.
The video is great too... it almost feels like Gaga used John Wayne to temporarily depart from the stripped-back nature of Joanne. Although she nicely straddles OldGa and NewGa, and if the LG6 visuals are of a similar vibe to John Wayne's I'll be scalped.
The only thing that prevents John Wayne from being a little higher is that I just don't find it as sonically enjoyable as most of her other tracks. There's no sense of any kind of eargasm... it's just a fun track to sing along to. https://i.gifer.com/4GZz.gif

Here we go!

57. Million Reasons // Joanne (track 7) // 2016
en2D_5TzXCA
Here is another track I'm worried I'm being a little harsh on. It's an entirely pleasant track, and really embodies the 'stripped back' theme Gaga was going for with Joanne. I also ADORE the now-iconic Gaga look that is bound up with Million reasons - the pink suit and cowboy hat look. The vocals are lovely - I can't really criticise any part of the song. It's just... it's a little plain. It was promoted for like FOUR months, and although I can see why it was chosen as the spearhead of Joanne, to my mind it's not even the best balledon the album.

The music video is a wee bit messy too. Like, PI was stripped down and ICONIC, whereas MR is just a tad cheap.

I must say, she produced some lovely performances during the 37 years she promoted the song for. This one is a highlight:

56. La Vie en Rose // A Star Is Born (track 2) // 2018
u93gJXcSyEs
La Vie en Rose is honestly one of the most stunning vocal performances Gaga has ever done in a studio recording. I just find this track absolutely breathtaking. I decided to not include her jazz records for the reason that jazz and pop is very trying to compare. But it feels right to put La Vie en Rose here. Honestly, it deserves more recognition.

Gaga just captures the blissful feeling of young romance so effortlessly on this track.

Gaga and Cooper's voices work here so well. It's plays like a throwback to a time of innocent love. It's just such a heartfelt love song, and the visuals that go with this song in the film are just UGH.

54. Dance In The Dark // The Fame Monster (track 5) // 2009
-SBmJvwiDns
This may be controversial (???) but as I said, I love every track from here on out. I can't deny I've never connected with DITD the same way other stans do, hence it being my second-lowest ranked TFM track. That's not to say it's not a dance anthem. The synths at the beginning are wig-snatching, the chorus is a belter.
And some little spoken segments are iconic:
"Silicone... saline... poison... inject me baby, I'm a free bitch"
"Marilyn, Judy, Sylvia
Tell 'em how you feel girls!
Work your blond (Jean) Benet Ramsey
We'll haunt like Liberace
Find your freedom in the music
Find your Jesus, find your Kubrick
You will never fall apart
Diana, you're still in our hearts
Never let you fall apart
Together we'll dance in the dark"
It's a brilliantly creative track, and it's just a banger. I just think a number of other tracks on TFM shine a little brighter.

Money Honey is a fully-fledged bop! The bassy synths from the start that run through the track  The earworm chorus: "k-k-k-kisses... that's money honey / when I'm your lover and your mistress...that's money honey / when you touch me it's so delicious!"

I also love the bridge. The Fame has many great bridges and Money Honey doesn't disappoint:
"you know I appreciate the finer things,
But it's not what makes me happiest, baby
(I can do without it, babe)
Your tender loving's more than I can handle
Never burn out this candle, baby, baby

Highway Unicorn may be a bit cheesy, and VERY abstract, but honestly, the production is bussy-destroying. That rumbling bassy synth that plays under "she's just an American riding a dream" makes the song an 8 on its own. :flutter:

MANiCURE is definitely one of the most fun tracks on ARTPOP to listen to. It's high-energy, upbeat and Gaga's gutteral vocals mix so well with the rock guitar

As a bonus track, I feel FOHL doesn't nearly get the recognition it deserves. Although BTW as an album is sometimes referred to as an 80s throwback record, that sentiment is most strong on this track. It's just such a joyful track. The lyrics are so glorious, and the instrumental truly does take you back to an 80s-pop sound. Definitely a non-single BTW favourite.

Meme-able WDYDT is the biggest bop in Gaga's discography since 2013 :skull:
It's an absolute joy to listen to. The vocals, the beat, just everything creates a pop CLASSIC https://i.makeagif.com/media/1-13-2016/5O5DcF.gif

44. Hair Body Face // A Star Is Born (track 15) // 2018

HBF is like WDYDT's older sister. It's just so mellow yet strong sounding, the lyrics are more heartfelt, and I just adore when she says "cos baby when I look at you, I just don't know what to do with you". Her voice. Although it's a bop, there's something almost melancholic about HBF. It's definitely me favourite of the bop trio from ASIB. It's sad it didn't get more prominence in the film.

Hair kinda feels like the second spearhead for BTW as an album after the title track, backing up the messages found in it. It's an emotional track... "I just wanna be myself and I just want you to love me for who I am"... "in the morning I'm short on my identity"..."I just wanna be free, I just wanna be me, and I want lotsa friends that invite me to their parties" are just a few of the lyrics that catch me right in the feels :(
I do have one gripe with Hair though, and that's the post-chorus breakdown. It's just kinda messy, and doesn't sound as nice as the rest of the song.

46. Fashion of His Love // Born This Way (track 11) // 2011

Tomc, What do you think of the Fernando Garibay remix of "FOHL"? I much prefer it to the original version, tbh...

i like ''the fame monster'' style more than current gaga

back then she had bops, and ava max seems to have taken over from gaga now at that boppy style while she herself is more into the serious side of songs
