Rape IS an epidemic, and everywhere, not just Africa. I do think it is likely to be even higher places like Africa though, simply because womens rights are virtually non existant (eg. child marriaged, fgm..and so on) and women are viewed as the property of men so they do what they like to them :(

As Vicky said, rape is an epidemic everywhere. A huge percentage of women will experience a sexual attack in some form in their lives. I imagine it could be worse in countries with a large rich/poor where poor people will often be abused because they'll fall through the cracks and won't likely be able to seek justice.

I find it hard to believe a lawyer of Cherie Blair's standing referred to women as "ladies".
