Brunei’s already strict Islamic criminal code will enter an
even tougher new stage next week with the introductions
of laws mandating lengthy prison terms, whipping, and
even execution for homosexual behavior. Brunei is set to
become the first Asian country to punish homosexuality
with the death penalty, as several Arab countries do.

runei began imposing sharia law with a three-stage process in 2014.
The first stage criminalized Christmas celebrations, getting pregnant out of wedlock, and failing to attend Muslim prayer services.
Homosexuality was also criminalized, but the penalty in
Stage One of the sharia revolution was merely 10 years in prison.

The sultanate disregarded five years of criticism from
international human rights groups and quietly issued
court orders to proceed with Stage Two on April 3.
Gays will be whipped, imprisoned for much longer
sentences, and could be executed by stoning, although
Brunei has recently been lax about actually carrying out
death sentences.

Homosexuality is already illegal in Brunei, but it will now
become a capital offence. The law only applies to Muslims.
The new penalty for theft is amputation of the right hand
for a first offence, and the left foot for a second offence.

Trash country. Throw all the sanctions we can at it and suspend any aid or deals we have with them.

It's a grim reminder of why the Birmingham issue is such a big deal and why children should be raised knowing that homosexuality and any other sexuality is perfectly normal and shouldn't be hated.

Not really sure why people surmise that the most homophobic of lawmakers are "probably gay themselves" and just acting out of severely repressed urges and self-hate, rather than just laying the blame squarely at heterosexual and religiously-insane feet. Just seems like an idle way of shifting the blame away from yourselves, and plays into the idea that gay (male) identity should always be aligned with self-hatred.

Whatever closeted individuals there are in Brunei - or Saudi Arabia, or Iraq, or Yemen, or Pakistan, or Eritrea, or Uganda - are most likely hiding for their lives, rather than changing legislation.

I have always said that these are the immigrants I would welcome with open arms..it took me ages to figure out the photos of all the young males I have seen whenever thier is a point to be made..but they were basically just scared young gay guys.

I felt ashamed once I figured it out a few months ago.

Of course I don't think gay identity should be aligned with self hatred, however, it does seem to be, a lot of the time. At least half of the most homopohobic people I have known throughout life, both at school and at work, have came out as gay (or bi..either way, they have openly had a same sex partner once they chilled out on the hatred) themselves a few years later. So I guess its kind of..experience that makes me think this. Seems to be fairly common, though I guess, my experience is not universal and could very well be very different in a country like that where its actually a crime to be gay.

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/george-clooney-boycotts-brunei-hotels-over-anti-lgbt-death-by-stoning-law/ar-BBVnl3n?ocid=spartanntp

George Clooney is planning to boycott Brunei owned hotels after the country introduced new laws that would see people whipped and stoned to death for same-sex activity.
In an op-ed for Deadline, Clooney said he and others have boycotted hotels owned by the Brunei Investment Agency in the past for the country’s anti-LGBT laws, but said the focus had “died down” in recent years in the face of other issues.

© Reuters
However, he has called on people across the world to again boycott hotels owned by the group after Brunei introduced its new anti-LGBT laws this week.
Clooney said that he has stayed in hotels owned by the group in the past as he was not aware at the time who owned them.
George Clooney: ‘Are we really going to help pay for these human rights violations?’
The actor has now named nine hotels owned by the group and said he would not be staying in them again.
“Every single time we stay at or take meetings at or dine at any of these nine hotels we are putting money directly into the pockets of men who choose to stone and whip to death their own citizens for being gay or accused of adultery,” Clooney said.

At least one of them is not The Castle Hotel.:joker:

Being serious though this is sickening, me and my Mom were in shock when we read about this initially, how people still think like this but then would probably blame a woman for being raped is barbaric imo.
