View Full Version : Does anyone else cut their own hair?

I've been cutting mine myself for a couple of years now, it feels quite liberating and even though a haircut is cheap here, it's nice to not have to pay any money for it. If you don't cut your own, how often do you go to get it done/how much do you pay?

 Had some right disasters with my hair when I was younger.
Cut it, called it the choppy/shaggy look, it was certainly unique.
Permed it myself....let’s not go there:joker:
Dyed it all colours, some of them unintended, who knew trying to go blonde from jet black would go green..or orange.
Get my hair cut every 5 weeks or so now, hairdresser comes to the house, charges a tenner.

Oh no, sounds like your locks have gone through a lot. :joker: Do you keep the same style every time and the hairdresser maintains it for you? Sounds nice to have a specific routine for that case!

Same style, just get it trimmed.
No need to dye it now, it has about a dozen different shades of grey in it.:hehe:

Grey suits a lot of people, I bet you look like a star, especially if you keep the style maintained like you said. :hee:

I cut my fringe once when I was about 11, it ended up getting shorter and shorter so never again :fist:
Like you Smudge my hair has been all colours through the years, last year I decided to stop dying and let my natural colour come through, I love it, no more sitting in the hairdressers waiting for the dye to take hold, which had become a chore rather than a pleasure, I get my hair cut every 8 weeks now and no I would never cut it myself

I wouldn't trust myself
I get my hair done every month.
Every month I get a wash and cut (£18)
Every other month I get a perm and a cut (£39)
Then whenever my roots look bad I get my hair coloured again (blonde) £50 each time

Why would you pay for a hair wash do you not have a shower
Jessica.

Why would you pay for a hair wash do you not have a shower
:joker: I think it's probably some kind of protective wash and style to help the perm?

Always. I fade the back and sides in and the just cut off the top when it gets too splitend-y
I’m done in 20 minutes. Doubt i’d even get to the barbers and be seated in 20 minutes.

literally... my hair is short so a cut and dye is like £50 but for someone with long hair it's legit like £60-80 at my salon...

Cut and blow dry every 6 weeks 50.00...highlights every 12 weeks additional 60.00...expensive but whilst I’m working and can afford it it’s worth every penny because I have a fab hairdresser.

Bless you, Glenn. :joker:
I would never have thought to cut my own hair always went every 6 weeks to my hairdresser to get a trim, my roots done etc, until a few weeks ago that is...I had a night out and couldn't get an appointment with the hairdresser, my hair felt too long and was just annoying me so I washed it then cut it myself, was panicky at first but it actually turned out great :amazed:
Might just do it myself from now on and save £56 quid every time

Wow, some people go so often.
Yeah - back in the day i used to go to the hairdressers twice a week as i went from waist length to quite short and oi had no idea how to even blow dry never mind keep it there.
Then bleach came along and it stood up on its own - brilliant ! so went from twice a week to a friend home hairdresser and then just getting mates to bleach and colour and i cut it.
I've also cut lots of other peoples and reg my partners, getting bleached and turquoised again on Sat  can't stand roots !
