View Full Version : Charley: Was Charley offended?

Everyone on BBBM seems to think so. And I completely agree.
It was so obvious that she was offended.
How can we know for sure, one minute she wasn't bothered and then the next she she couldn't stop going on about it. One of those things where only she knows the truth, something she might only admit after the show.

I think when it sank in both Charley AND Nikki were offended.

She so was. If she wasn't she would have have kept going on about it for hours after. Also she did look upset.

I actually gasped at the comment, even though I knew it was coming.
It was said so clearly, and quickly.

i think she was genuinly offended but just heard her on bbbm and she is thinking about the headlines so i think as far as she is concerned emily has wrongly done her a favour
The look on her face as soon as it happened told it's own story, she was clearly bothered by it.

Im Sorry ! But I Didnt She How Charlie Was Offended By The Comment Emiley Made ! If She Was Offened She Would Have Said Something At That Time ! She Had Time To Think About What Emiley Said And Then Acted On It By Half Telling The Other Housemates !
Dont Get Me Wrong Its An Awful Word Should Have Never Been Used ! But Lets Think About This ! Who Has Been The Most Offencive Homsemate ? Charlie Of Course ! I Think She Know How She Acted In The Past Week And Used The Situation To Her Advantage !

Charley WAS clearly offended at the time even though she pretended not to be, but after a minute or so, she kept saying "i am very shocked by this" and was clearly quite disturbed that this middle-class, stuck up girl had the guts to call her a ni**** to her face. It is shocking in the context and very wrong.
Who has been the most offensive housemate? At first I thought Charley but Emily was seeping out a malicious side to her, day-by-day.
I'm sorry. I couldn't read your post as smoothly as I have read other posts. 'Maybe Because It Is All Typed Like A Title"
but that's okay. Anyway, I have to say Charley acted mature about it at first, but then started telling other housemate. Charley did have a right to be offended, though. I don't know why it's fine for her to use the term while Emily can't. That is discrimination no matter what.

The thing is, in fact, if Charley was terribly offended, why she didn't talk to Big Brother or why Big Brother didn't call her to the diary room ? I like Charley but the producers needed to ask her before expulse Emily. That decision was taken too quickly, maybe because the producers did not want an other scandal as the CBB5 one. Ok, Emily said something offensive, but it doesn't explain why Big Brother took that decision so quickly.

She was definitely offended - she wouldn't have brought it up constantly otherwise; she just couldn't let it go. And her initial reaction was truly gobsmacked. I think the reason she kept acting bothered and then not bothered was because she didn't know how to deal with the situation at all, and was feeling insecure and worried about it. That's the conclusion I came to anyway.

It is a nasty word and Emily should not have said it. Charlie admitted that she had said that word herself. Why was it ok for Charlie to say it ? Why was nobody offended when Charlie used that word ?

Big Brother just can't win, can they? If they hadn't acted so quickly, there probably would be no more BB.

Yes, Charley was offended. It's in the eyes ... the look in her eyes said it all.

I think she was shocked more than anything you could see in her face she didn't know how to take it. She kept saying it was a joke but then she'd look as if she was upset by it!

the fact that she discussed it for such a long time suggests that she was offended and chose not to react which shows great strength of character, me personally I would have been very upset and would have made my feelings very clear at the time possible leading to me being ejected as well :joker:

To me, she was clearly offended by it and she clearly used it to her advantage, keeping the subject going all day long, and I think she's perfectly entitled to do that. If someone is offended in the Big Brother house, they can make as big a deal of it as they choose.

BBBM has a job to do in winning back respect for it's television company. Regardless of how this debate is handled by the public, BBBM was a strictly one sided view, with inverted racial connotations.

Charley is now playing the victim card and is going to milk this. And has totally changed what she has said now she knows how things are.
Charley played it brilliantly there. We all know what Emily said was wrong but theres no need to go saying one thing and then change it to get sympathy from her other housemates, then again though it could help her quite a bit when nominations come around next week.

Yes, I think she was. For her own and Emily's good Charley really shouldn't have made out that it didn't bother her.

I do agree that Charley will manipulate and use this to her advantage as and when possible. I wonder if it is a turning point for her!
Anyone who thinks she wasn't offended needs to go on youtube and watch it back, she clearly was!
one of the first things she said was "i cant believe you said that" "that is a bit racist" when nicky offered her a cigarette she said "i think ill need it" several times she said "i cant get over what u just said"

I can't believe some of the comments on this thread. People who think that Charley played this. I'm disgusted to read comments like that. Let me tell you, in issues of race there is no playing. Some black people I know would have started screaming and shouting at Emily before she even finished speaking, The way I read it was that Charley could not get it out of her mind because whe too probably has relatives who would have made this into a major row. I think Charley knew the gravity of this and anyone who doesn't feel so does not know how offensive this word is to many black people. In the house I grew up in my mother used the word all the time but, my father never used it. Even in the black community and amongst some black people this word is a total no no. Understand that. Rappers may use the word but Oprah Winfrey has openly said that she never uses the word. The moment Charly heard that word she knew Emily was in big trouble. There is no way she was thinking of using this incident to her advantage.

you realise you have the Wu Tang Clan as your sig right?
firstly Charley admitted to using the word herself...not only that....but said "I am a N" yes a lot of black people are offended by the use of that word....as are most white people.
but you cannot defend rappers for using it and condemn someone else...Should Eminem and 50cent stop making money out of the use of that word? probably...but it'll never happen
and as for Charley at the time she was shocked.......but not upset by it....if she was she strikes me as the type of girl not to brush it off the way she did......and yes she is milking it, at first I was giving her a chance, maybe she wasn't.....but the simple fact that she at certain points was trying to make out that Emily must be a racist because she said that word.....
of course none of us are ever going to agree on this matter, so it's probably best that we agree to disagree rather than argue about it
so in short initially no she wasn't offended, after thought probably thinking should I be offended.....final thought.....yes I should...think of the headlines......(she even said that much)
and I hope I haven't offended you, you seem like an intelligent person, we just differ in opinion.

I think she tried to cover up the fact she was offended, it still haunts her about how easily it came out of Emilys mouth.
My verdict is she was shocked and offended. Well done Channel 4.
