Well that's great news if they really have been able to save the structure.

Does anyone know what caused the fire? What I mean by that is has there been any news on if it was deliberately caused by anybody or not?

..it’s an incredible building, very sad.....what a devastating and emotional sight for those people looking on with the flames in the skyline...but as heartbreaking as it is, there was no loss of life...a building can be rebuilt and restored...life can not...and incredible that the main body and structure seems okay..or might be..?...

Such a shame to see the spire fall so many relics etc lost forever so glad the towers survived and I hope they can restore most of it,always sad when something beautiful is destroyed

Nicky91
16-04-2019, 07:43 AM
awful, but i agree with Macron it needs to be rebuilt, no matter what the cost is, Notre Dame is an important landmark for France

perhaps the wood had gotten old, and maybe it was in need for entirely renovating anyway, now i would also install sprinkler system to prevent it getting out of control again

i liked the people on the Streets singing those French hymns, prayer songs

I am sure we have plenty good church fires to report about

:oh:

If is a very big word though, brexit was never meant to go normal from the start

something like that can only go normal when all parties want the same thing, and that will never happen i think

i like historic buildings but i am not emotionally attached to them. They are only bricks and mortar at the end of the day, and have a shelf life, like anything else.

It's a shame and all that, but I'm more pleased there were no fatalities.

Its not about what parties want its what people want.

A large bus that went a few meters in London for one day and went on the news briefly for one day promised me that it would give me money and I will never forget that bus - nor the promise it made to me, like I forgot about the Pro_EU brochure that The Government dropped through every British door with 14 pages and cost £9,000,000 or when the leader of the free world was wheeled out to support the EU either

It's a shame and all that, but I'm more pleased there were no fatalities. There are millions more people that are more emotionally attached to this building, than there are people emotionally attached to my life. This building is more important to the World than I am.

Evelyn Waugh once said that in the event of a fire in his house, if he was able only to save his children or his library, he would save his library, because books were irreplaceable.

Thankfully, it seems that the stained glass windows have survived and apparently there's been hundreds of millions of euros pledged to rebuild it. It won't be the same but it will survive.

Imagine if this fire was caused by someone tossing a ciggy on their break. Imagine being known throughout history as the person who almost burned down Notre Dame with a discarded cigarette.
