MPs, Councillors and Party canvassers get branded they don't care or never bother if they never appear to talk to people.

Then get moaned at or ridiculed when they do.

As someone who has canvassed in elections for years.
It's still sometimes daunting knocking at someone's door, being apprehensive of the greeting or lack of you're going to get.
Or even unnecessary abuse.

All very sad.

You are cold calling, so it’s within someone’s right to tell you to do one.

Ahah I think I have been put on a blacklist for the home visists as whoever comes I go into rants about everything thats wrong with their party and that. Be them lib dems, tories or Labour. I haven't had any visists this year but in local elections I will vote Labour as our local MP is brilliant and does help and acknowledge probelms. General election though, currently I cannot vote and wil have to spoil my ballot :/

Your MP was asking you to vote in local elections.

Are you sure he wasn't just a council candidate?

:clap1: This.

I've started canvassing quite a bit this year. Honestly this idea that it's edgy or funny to have a go at people who are just trying to do something positive with their time and change their community is so tiresome.

So often the same people who moan about politicians being out of touch are the same ones who slam the door in my face when I try and talk to them.

Well if they rang they woukd be bothering you too.

Canvassing has been part of electioneering since elections began.
No need for ridicule or hostility on the doorstep.

Have you a notice saying no cold callers etc.
We wouldn't knock then.

It is our time too, you know.

Exactly.
However when you get the deceit ones thankfully it makes it worthwhile.
Even when they disagree with us.

It's nice to interact and I've had some wonderful chats with people I'll never forget.

I had a tory candidate for mp canvassing in 2017, told him politely not to waste his time as we'll never vote tory, we exchanged smiles and off he went.

There was no point him sliding into my PMs to send death wishes either. Why the moderators continue to entertain him’s the biggest mystery since 2010.

Well I'm glad to be out of touch if insulting people as you choose to is the norm of being in touch.

I'd love to know the people like you who are so unwelcoming to the men and women of all ages, who in their free time are only trying to inform or gather information via legal legitimate election canvassing.
So that we don't then submit ourselves to possible unnecessary abuse and are able to avoid such houses, doors and those people completely.

I think you just need to let it go!, a grudge gets heavier the longer you carry it.

Plus it adds nothing to the forum.
