Galashiels a town 18 miles from my home town, the people from there get called "pail merks"

Why?

Seemingly they were the last of the Scottish border towns to get plumbing so used to poop in buckets(pails) and it used to leave a mark round thier bums.

Wellingborough's not far, someone defaced the "Welcome to Wellingborough" sign so it said "Well rough", which is rather clever and very fitting.

Yeah there’s a village near me where the residents are “Jackos”, dunno why.

There's another town near me where we call the residents "Jocks", as the town has a high Scottish population due to the steelworks
