I mean, I kind of agree with him, the sentiment is great and all, but why do they have to label things with rainbows and change the name of things? Like ‘This isn’t just a sandwich, it’s a sandwich even the gays can enjoy’ I find it a bit patronising if I’m honest.

However this thing of ‘well, why not make a white straight male sandwhich?’ Is such a brain dead argument, but it’s to be expected from the king of internet trolls, I’m starting to think that maybe he’s just offended by food :suspect:

Theres nothing this guy wouldn't kick off about if it got him attention tbh. I find it amusing though that he seems to think everyone else is oversensitive to stuff while getting annoyed about what he gets annoyed about.

Straight white man sandwich is..stupid obviously

Liam..a lot of my gay mates are saying the same thing. Also that basically companies are using LGBT causes for publicity when in reality they give not a crap, and 'abusing the pink pound' or something like that  Their main ire seems to be directed at the likes of primark and their rainbow clothes and pride mind ..there was much kicking off not long ago as apparently prides all just about how much can be made now, rather than anything else..and some friends who have always taken part were going to be charged 40 quid or something for the first time ever..don't remember the full thing but yeah, many were annoyed, and they seem to be the same annoyed here. I do get where they are coming from though, but..if people wanna buy these and raise money for a good cause, I don't really get the issue.

I mean, if they really wanted to give money to charity, they could easily afford to just give it to them, it’s a case of them using a real life struggle for millions of people to capitalise and sell their stock, it’s a cheap marketing ploy with no real substance behind it, but then on the other hand, it’s a sandwhich? I think we can all agree that they’ve done it for social morality and publicity, if they really wanted the charity to have money, they could, if he had stopped at that I’m sure more people would be on his side, however, to get so outraged by something that is aimed to support gays that you demand a straight white male equivelent, is not only borderline bigoted, it insanely stupid, he needs to learn when to stop when he’s winning

To mark the launch of Pride M&S have donated £10,000 in the UK and 1000 Euros in Ireland to LGBT charities. I'm not sure they're donating the profits of this sandwich. If they aren't they should, otherwise it looks like a marketing ploy with a tax break for a charity donation.

It's only hideous, shallow and damaging to the people who hear the terms 'pride' or 'LGBT' and look for a reason to rubbish anything to do with them regardless if the reason makes sense or not.

Nothing like a straight person trying to dictate what is damaging to the LGBT when in fact, they seek to undermine it.

I think if they're charging £3 for this sandwich they could give something? 10p? 20p? And in the scheme of M&S profits, I'm not sure £10,000 and 1000 Euro is enough if they're using this promotion over the whole summer, which I understand they are.

I agree to the extent that I think the figures are surely wrong?? My shop (solo!) could make a one off £10k donation without it being a significant profit loss and that's WITHOUT the associated tax breaks . The entire M&S chain donated £10k? :umm2:

Honestly, we had a bucket go round our office for Children in Need last year and raised £500+ It really is a cheap marketing trick for M&S, they could have given SO much more.

"Marks and Spencer has launched an LGBT+ sandwich to celebrate Pride and raise money for charity, but it has been met with mixed reactions.

The sandwich, which is available to buy in the UK and Ireland, is filled with lettuce, guacamole, bacon and tomato – to fulfil the LGBT acronym – and comes in rainbow-coloured packaging.

The supermarket released the sandwich to raise money for the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT) – a charity dedicated to helping homeless LGBT+ youth – and BeLong to Youth Services – an organisation supporting LGBT+ young people in Ireland.

The retailer says it has donated £10,000 to the AKT and will be making a further £1,000 donation to BeLong to Youth Services."

As a part of the LGBT, I appreciate the thought. I was only born on the first day of the 90's but things have come so far in such a relatively short time. Such acceptance was a pipedream when I was growing up.

I'm just happy that pride is a thing and is so widespread now, sure, bigger donations to charity could be a thing but the power of representation can do wonders. It's not so much about how much money M&S is making from it for me, I'm just happy that such a campaign even exists.

Given that a lot of straight people are complaining about the money aspect, I don't think it's something you can truly understand if you're straight. Representation at this point, is enough.
