So, instead of creating a thread for each new announcement in the Star Trek franchise, I will use this one, though I will still post seasonal threads for each of the shows when they air (to keep spoilers contained)

So far in the Star Trek Multiverse we have

Star Trek The Original Series
Star Trek The Animated Series
Star Trek The Next Generation
Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Star Trek Voyager
Star Trek Enterprise
and Star Trek Discovery
Then there is the TOS/TNG films

and Star Trek/Into Darkness/Beyond, which are set in an alternate timeline

Upcoming we have

Star Trek Untitled Picard Show
Star Trek Lower Decks
Star Trek Section 31
and an Untitled children's CG animated show

Also, CBS launched the 'Star Trek Global Franchise Group' yesterday who will be overseeing future non-TV show related projects, such as video games, websites and books

tbh the Shorts are better than ST:D

Star Trek used to be a set of ideals, but now Star Trek is names you know, and places you know, where people can shoot at each other in the places.

Scarlett.
16-10-2019, 01:34 PM
To be fair on Disco, it's meant to be that kind of show, the plan for each show in the new Star Trek era is each one will be a different style, rather than repeating like what happened with TNG/VOY/ENT (DS9 was the best because it was different to the rest). I hope that if they do the Pike show, it will be kinda like TOS.

Oliver_W
16-10-2019, 02:17 PM
I get that things don't need to be the same over and over, and something too akin to TOS might not fly (heehee) with today's audience, but I feel like ST:D is so far removed it could may as well be its own thing, y'know?

Scarlett.
16-10-2019, 02:22 PM
I think Disco will work better in its new setting from season 3 onward, a lot of the weird stuff in S1 & 2 were hangovers from when Bryan Fuller was in charge (New Klingons, that were basically reverted in S2, Burnham being Spock's adopted sister ect.) Season 2 pretty much tied a neat little bow on all that weirdness and now its going off in it's own direction and not having to butt up against established canon. IMO it should have always been a sequel series.

Noah Hawley to Write and Direct Next ‘Star Trek’ Movie
By Justin Kroll
@krolljvar

“Fargo” and “Legion” creator Noah Hawley has been tapped to write and direct the next installment of the “Star Trek” franchise, sources tell Variety.

Though plot details are being kept under wraps, sources tell Variety the next “Star Trek” is expected to see Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban and Zoe Saldana returning to man the U.S.S. Enterprise.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will return to produce, with Hawley also producing through his 26 Keys production banner.

This will serve as the fourth movie in the cinematic series, and is separate from another “Star Trek” pic that Paramount is developing with Quentin Tarantino producing and Mark L. Smith writing.

The studio had tried to launch the fourth film last year, with S.J. Clarkson directing and Chris Hemsworth joining the cast to reprise the role of Pine’s father. That film was shelved when deals could not be reached, but the studio is hoping that this attempt will be more successful, with a different plot than the one Hemsworth turned down.

Hawley made his feature film directorial debut on “Lucy in the Sky,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and stars Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm. He is repped by CAA.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

Captain Kathryn Janeway, the fearless leader of the USS Voyager in "Star Trek: Voyager," now has a permanent home in Indiana.

The bold captain, who is a fan favorite throughout the franchise, has been memorialized in a statue that now stands in the city of Bloomington, the character's birthplace. Actor Kate Mulgrew, who portrayed Janeway for seven seasons on "Voyager," attended the unveiling of the statue virtually this past weekend.

"I’m not often rendered speechless, but in this moment I am," Kate Mulgrew said of the monument and impact Janeway's legacy has had on fans. "It’s a wonderful comment on Janeway's legacy … To realize that Janeway has had such an important role in your lives, and I think in cultural history, it not only terribly affecting for me, but makes me want to go forth in a new way."

"This recognition is something extraordinary to me and I am deeply proud to be honored in this way," she added.

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/zC6cbt93C48fDcKxm2fwGS-970-80.jpg.webp

A fan group called the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective is behind the statue, which is a bronze bust of the Trek character with the text "Future Birthplace of Captain Kathryn Janeway, Bloomington Indiana, Earth, May 20, 2336.". The monument, which resides on the B-Line Trail next to the WonderLab Museum in downtown Bloomington, was unveiled to a crowd (both online and in-person) on Saturday (Oct. 24), including Mulgrew Trek fans who watched online in a Facebook Live video of the ceremony.

The Collective launched a successful campaign to raise funds and build the statue in 2019. The project really started gaining traction after it partnered with local Bloomington non-profit organization Artisan Alley, an industrial workshop and creative workspace. Artisan Alley connected the fan group to artists and professionals that enabled the ultimate success of the campaign, Josh Dinner, the communication and design lead for the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective, told Space.com.

"One of the show's executive producers, Jeri Taylor, has roots in Bloomington and wrote the city as Janeway's hometown. The Collective chose to honor Janeway with this monument for her leadership, and the role model she became for so many girls and women in STEM [science, technology, engineering and math] fields today," Dinner told Space.com.

"Having spent the past two years designing, fundraising, and planning for the monument and its unveiling, members of the collective and fans in attendance (of which there were over 250) were thrilled to have the character's actress, Kate Mulgrew, in virtual attendance via Zoom. Her reaction was one of thrill and admiration. Eager to speak with the bust's sculptor, Aaron Eby, she expressed her sincerest gratitude and said he captured Janeway's likeness perfectly," he added.

Mulgrew will return to her role as Capt. Janeway soon as she will voice the character for the upcoming Nickelodeon animated series "Star Trek: Prodigy.

Discovery has an unfortunate abbreviation.:joker:

It also has unfortunate scriptwriters and directors :hehe:

Burnham was actually okay opposite Pike, they had a bit of a Kirk-and-Spock dynamic from TOS. But that only really lasted a couple of episodes, and even then it is was let down by the show as a whole.

While there's no point thinking of tweaks to make it better because it would still have the same creatives ("creatives") they almost had something there - Pike should have been the focus, or at least as much as Kirk was. Like sure, he was the "main character", being the captain and having his Captain Logs as a sort of narration, but it was really a trio of Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

Meh, I could go on for ages how TOS is better than STD.

Tbh before STD, I had only watched DS9 & Enterprise out of the TV Shows and really enjoyed them, but Discovery I only watched Season 1 because it was just too bland for me to want to come back for Season 2 imo.

Basically I could imagine that TOS was a better Show.

TOS sure is better, and while it certainly couldn't be called "bland" it's got a slower style of storytelling per episode, and every episode is a standalone. Also there are virtually no interpersonal conflicts, as in the future humanity has moved on beyond that. All the drama comes from outside, and the situations they're in.

Kate Mulgrew still slays as Janeway (double voice role actually, Admiral Kathryn Janeway and Hologram Janeway)

what's it about

a group of alien kids stumble across the experimental USS Protostar later revealed was under the command of Captain Chakotay they use that to escape the mining planet they were held captive and forced to work at

all in all, i am loving this so much, equally as JW: Camp Cretaceous, similarly well made animated take on ST universe, cool action scenes too

also speaking of Camp Cretaceous, we have one voice actress from there too in this one, Jameela Jamil as voice of ''Ensign Asencia''

based on Prodigy's popularity, and with also the opportunity being there, of a live action Voyager reunion

could Star Trek: Janeway be the next thing to go for? post-Picard

the fandom also surely wants to know about Tom & B'Elanna's daughter Miral

and tbh the live action series could pick up where Prodigy kinda ended

with the group of Dal, Gwyndala, Rrok, Murf, Jankom travelling alongside hologram janeway

but the real admiral janeway, captain chakotay, the emh on earth

my idea i posted in creative writing https://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forums/showthread.php?t=390954

wouldn't be a too bad concept i think, considering the Voyager OG's are like experts of the delta quadrant

in case certain villains want to salvage the now derelict borg base (post-Endgame, and Picard S3)

and we know Kate Mulgrew is open for returning to live action as Janeway either

https://trekmovie.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/stlv25-bakula-head.jpg

Last Friday, TrekMovie exclusively broke the news that Star Trek: Enterprise star Scott Bakula had teamed up with Voyager and Enterprise writer/producer Mike Sussman on a pitch to return to the franchise in a new series centering around Federation president Jonathan Archer. They envision the show as a “political thriller and a family drama set in those chaotic, formative years of the Federation,” and they even have a name for it: Star Trek: United. The idea was floated to Paramount a couple of years ago, but with the pullback in streaming and focus on developing Starfleet Academy, they passed on the idea. However, Bakula and Sussman have continued to refine the concept and hope the new Skydance regime at Paramount will be open to consider this show as part of their plans to expand Paramount+.

Over the weekend at STLV: Trek to Vegas, Scott Bakula made his first convention appearance since 2016. The subject of Star Trek: United came up, and he offered up some brief thoughts. Mike Sussman also appeared on a panel over the weekend and revealed more details on the vision for the potential series.

Bakula holding out hope for United
During his panel appearance on Sunday afternoon, Bakula kept the packed convention auditorium entertained with funny stories from his time in the franchise, other genre shows, and more. He even took time out to record a message to a fan’s mother whose cancer kept her from attending. But at one point, the actor took a fan question about where he would have liked to go with Archer had Enterprise not been cancelled in its fourth season, and also if he could talk about the United pitch. He started talking about how Enterprise wrapped up: “Because we were being canceled—and there was a good chance we would have been canceled after three [seasons] if [Paramount Television president] Garry Hart hadn’t kind of gone to the mat for us—so we got an extra season 4 to kind of complete the whole Xindi thing, which thank goodness we did, because I thought that was pretty amazing television. I loved that, and it really was great writing. And, man, we had some good, good actors come on all the time on that show. I didn’t recognize half of them [due to alien makeup]… So, we crushed the ending of the show to wrap things up, but I think the goal was for that to happen more slowly, and for Archer to kind of start forming the bones of the Federation. And I think that would have been really, really exciting to do. So I’m sorry we didn’t get to really kind of lean into that.”

The former Enterprise lead then pivoted to carefully talk a little bit about United: “There’s nothing I am going to say about United, at this point. There’s a great writer [Mike Sussman] and I have had conversations about the possibility… I’m just going to say—and we will close on that—you never know.”

As we reported earlier, the Star Trek: United concept would see Bakula as President Archer helping shape the early Federation, as he wished he’d the chance to do had Enterprise continued. There was a also funny moment when the fan who asked about United jumped in to say she was ready to offer up $5 for the project, and Bakula quickly jumped back to joke “I’ll take it! Crowdfunding… now wait a minute!” The actor wrapped up his appearance on stage by promising to return for STLV in 2026 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Sussman wants to explore big issues with United
Michael Sussman was a guest on TrekMovie’s “Does canon matter?” panel on Saturday, and the subject of United came up. Within the context of the panel’s subject, the writer and producer was asked how much he feels a show like United needs to rely on the nostalgia and populating the show with canon characters (beyond Archer). Sussman said: “When you’re establishing a new show, I think it’s important that it stand on its own two feet. If you lean too heavily, too soon, on bringing back characters from other shows or films, you risk slipping into pure ‘memberberries.’ With United, the ideas Scott and I discussed center on a lot of new characters—but of course there are plenty of opportunities for some familiar faces to appear, maybe even in recurring or semi-regular roles.”

When asked if Archer’s ally (and fan favorite character) the Andorian Shran (Jeffrery Combs) could make that cut, Sussman noted how a canon character could be used organically within the show, suggesting “Chief of Staff of Starfleet, maybe?”

But again, Sussman leaned into the idea that the show would take advantage of an era that has not been seen in Trek lore: “[Nostalgic references] are a bit like seasoning—you have to use them sparingly, especially if you’re trying to bring in new viewers. You might see some familiar faces, familiar species, familiar ships, but what excites me about this era is how wide open it is. There’s roughly a century between Enterprise and Discovery, and we know almost nothing about it.”

He also gave a bit more insight into some of the topics Star Trek: United would explore in the latter 22nd century: “On Enterprise, we didn’t really have time to explore the formation of the Federation. The focus was on defense and saving the planet—which, of course, was vital for the story we were telling. But I believe we were going to lay the groundwork for a government and a state that would champion sentient rights, the rights of all species, really—and stand firmly for justice and equality across the galaxy. And that would ultimately lead to the establishment of the Prime Directive. We never really got to dig into all of that on Enterprise as much as I would’ve liked, and I think we definitely would have if the series had continued beyond season 4. There’s still so much to explore in that era.”

Wrapping up the topic of United, he again compared his vision for the show to the recent critically acclaimed Star Wars series Andor and how it was “more grounded,” avoiding overt fan service while remaining “true to the Star Wars mythos.” He feels there is room in Star Trek for an “adult” show like that.

For now, Star Trek: United is just a concept, and not in active development at Paramount. However, Sussman and Bakula hope the Paramount leadership team headed up by CEO David Ellison may give it consideration as they fulfill the commitment to increase investment in Paramount+. TrekMovie will keep an eye on this project and hopefully find out more about the concept.
