The police are underfunded and understaffed. And appaear to spend a fair amount of time these days interviewing people for tweets. Meanwhile, actual crime goes unpunished. Of course what he posted was stupid, but its surely not a police matter..

I also was under the impression until fairly recently that for a 'hate crime' a crime had to be committed first, and then context and such decide if its actually a hate crime rather than..just a crime?

I don't think DB is racist tbf as has been said previously on the thread he was trying to be edgy and mocking the Royal family but fell flat on his arse, if he has produced this when George was born for instance I am sure many would be applauding him, the alcohol clouded his judgement and he probably genuinely forgot about Meghans heritage

i don't know if he is racist or not. I am quite sure he knew what he was posting and the connotations of it. I think he did it to be controversial/edgy ... thought it would get him a few laughs and increase his profile. The fact that his apology started off as a criticism of those who complained, and then altered again when that didn't get accepted, and then again after that, tells me he feels no contrition for what he did. However, investigation by the police is completely stupid.

I don't think there's any reason not to point out the ridiculous pomp that surrounds the Royals, personally, and actually of ALL the royals I think Harry and Meghan probably agree with that to an extent :think:. They've made it very clear that they do NOT want their child paraded around like a "national prize" and want him to have as private / normal a childhood as possible.

However I find it a flimsy excuse and I find it almost impossible to believe that the race aspect didn't cross Baker's mind as he made his tweet. The "I'm just so un-racist that I didn't even realise it could be seen as racist!!" is old, tired and daft.

It's a very fine line between something being hilarious and not appropriate, thats the whole point of comedy.
