Well I hope he fails.
This would be a more divisive move if he became leader.
However, unless other candidates can split votes to ensure he doesn't make it to the members ballot.
If he does get through to that , he will surely be elected leader.

Pretty amusing that the Conservative rebellion he's caused since campaigning for Brexit could very well be the reason a party overtakes and ousts the one he's been scheming to become the leader of.

I have never rated Theresa May at all long before she was PM too.
I doubt the UK has ever had such a really poor lot of leaders of just about all Parties.
The only one I admire is Nicola Sturgeon.
It doesn't look like the leaders are likely to improve soon either.
