View Full Version : Chernobyl
Anyone else watching this? Currently the highest rated tv series on IMDB at 9.6 after 3 episodes. Been really gripping so far

I've taped it but knowing my punctuality with TV shows I won't watch it until, perhaps, April 2021

I've been meaning to start this. Always had a morbid interest in the disaster and I've heard only great things about this so far.

Yes I'm really enjoying it but it's so frustrating at times :fist:

Just seen the last ep, what a series :clap1:
As disturbing as it is it makes you realise how many heroes there were on the ground there

I really want to see it. Have all the episodes aired? I'd rather binge them all.
The movie Chernobyl Diaries was quite good until the halfway mark. So creepy.

There's 5 in total, they're all out now
It was really good but scary ****, like a real life horror story, we really are a plague on this earth. I was 8 when it happened but I have a kids memory of it all, something nucleur that was bad kind of a thing so it was interesting to get the full story on it

i watched 4 last night, bloody hell the hospital scenes were horrific, worse than the naked miners :omgno:
Whoever thought socialism was a good idea should be thrown in a nuclear reactor core
just finished this, probably one of the best TV series I’ve ever watched, truly gripping and horrifying. The hospital scenes were shocking.
It educated me as well, lots of stuff I didn’t know about, I knew about most of the facts of the disaster, but didn’t know how big the cover up was. The montage at the end was also quite sad. All those people on that bridge dead a year later

Not watched it all yet
but is it really better than Breaking Bad and GoT, I don't think so :hmph:
I think it's nearly the perfect show - really well paced, well acted, the dialogue is superb etc
Think I could easily watch it all again and find it just as gripping

I feel like a sick saying this but I'm too scared to watch it. Way too horrifying and close to home.

I've seen the first episode with a mate and we're going to continue watching it next week.
We didn't think we'd like it but wow! The fact that it happened and recently too and could happen again anytime makes it all the more terrifying.

[not-so] Fun fact: Distant relatives of mine who owned a sheep farm in Snowdonia at the time of this disaster had to stop business because their livestock became RADIOACTIVE from eating the grass after it. Crazy!

This has got to be one of the most harrowing and genuinely horrifying programs I've ever watched. I find myself holding my breathe and sitting with my mouth open for the most part.
The dogs got me though, bad. SO sad! :bawling::bawling::bawling:

Watched it in one go.
Was a bit worried about it beforehand bc I've read a fair few books on it and was concerned how faithful it would turn out to be.
Give it a B+ so not bad at all.
They took some liberties but nothing major or nothing that cant be justified by the poetic licence.
Overdid the greyness of it all but that could be to do with the atmosphere they wanted.
Overall a decent effort.
The biggest departures from the reported facts were
. The design defects were not a big secret
. Tha helicopter crash happened weeks later and bc of a collision with a crane
. Legasov didn't testify in the trial
. Appaz the bridge of death didn't happen
Plus minor details
. You wouldn't fly from Moscow in a helicopter as Chernobyl is too far
. Soviet scientists of Legasov's stature lived in better flats

Almost liked I planned it, but I watched the first two episodes last night and it was a good mix of terrifying, gripping and interesting.
Find it staggering that Boris Baranov, Alexei Ananenko and Valeri Bezpalov don't even have their own Wikipedia pages, let alone statues for literally saving half of Europe. Even more staggering that all three survived entering the basement to empty the water tanks (Baranov died in 2005, from a heart problem)
An interview with Ananenko from when this series aired: https://www.france24.com/en/20190614-im-no-hero-says-chernobyl-diver-portrayed-hit-tv-series

I've watched this.
I did never much enjoy it, especially having been to Pripyat and the station.
