i know there is the tennis thread, but i just thought the only Grand Slam tournament held in UK deserves a special thread on here

https://www.careeranna.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/image.jpg

title defenders are

with the men: Novak Djokovic

with the women: Angelique Kerber

so is anyone going to this sports event, which starts from 1st to 14th of July

Hes not retired yet hes retiring after Wimbledon

he's got no match rhythm so i doubt he's a contender here, more likely a Round 1 exit for him i think

Nicky91

but i myself follow more WTA than ATP honestly

Konta is still having some good matches lately, but maybe some of the new generation could surprise again, like they did at roland garros

Halep well she's done for now, end of her career probably

Wozniacki is also at end of her career

Serena and Venus end of their careers, with Venus maybe the one who might sneak up there like a Pennetta did at US Open few years back

Poor Gauff just now, but anyway she is a good talent, and nice surprise at wimbledon this year a 15 yr old getting as far as round 4

but anyway Halep will be now ''quarter final is enough'' especially against Zhang who already had beaten halep before recently :fan:

Just 15years old , she did well
to get that far.

Halep has won wimbledon this year, she has so much luck on her side now

Denver
09-07-2019, 04:28 PM
What an embarrassment.

She had no better chance to win then this year and let us down again

Nicky91
09-07-2019, 04:44 PM
also losing against strycova who is considered to have one of the weakest mentalities on tour :joker:

Serena vs Simona final would be nice i guess, and i think this serena is beatable for Halep compared to all other times they faced

but first Svitolina for Halep, elina can choke massively too so it is a 50/50 match whoever wants it more and has more luck

serena vs strycova well either strycova can peak or choke

i say ''choke'' but that is a legit tennis term when someone has a awful game with loads of errors

Denver
13-07-2019, 01:59 PM

Denver

Nicky91
13-07-2019, 02:02 PM

lol, serena should be Lucky she had at least made a final again ;)

she's getting older you know, having returned from pregnancy so this is the right steps forward and i can see her doing well with maybe a slam title at US Open this year at least i am seeing her as a favourite there

A shame about the way that Serena lost today, I'd have personally wanted to have seen a closer match, but never mind there's always the US Open for her to try and dominate.

And it's nice to see Halep win Wimbledon for the first time so I am happy with the Women's results overall.

I'm really excited for the men's final tomorrow as two great Tennis players going up against each other should mean a Federer vs Nadal type of close game, hopefully.

Brilliant men's doubles final today.
One of the most gripping matches I've watched.

I was glad Halep won today too.
Always nice to see the reaction of the first title win.
She was well on her best form and sadly Williams seemed to fade today.

Like Mock, I am too looking forward to the battle of the giants in the Men's final tomorrow.

I was hoping Federer would have taken it but brilliant match.

Wonder how long it would have gone on without the final set tie break.

Well done indeed to Djokovic though.

Mystic Mock
14-07-2019, 06:57 PM
Great match, I'm happy that Djokovic won, but it's always good to watch a 5 set match, especially when it's someone who excels on Grass like Roger Federer as he is one of the last of his kind really to not be a hard court player along with a few others, so I appreciate what he brings to the game.

But yeah what a match.

I watched the tennis and followed the cricket scores with regular phone updates from my dad who eats, lives and breathes cricket.....he was sure we'd blown it! Switched over at the end of the tennis in time for the super over. What a finish....forget football, THIS was super Sunday fir once

It was indeed.

Chuffed to bits for your dad x

If Federer had won though I may have missed the golden over cause I wanted him to win so much for us oldies..I just spat swear words and looked for my remote and hit precious channels...dissapointed at the lack of celabration though...but maybe that's down to being mentally drained after that.
