Because she said her sister used to tie her bunches so tight she looked Oriental? Don't be ridiculous. Have there been any complaints from Oriental people? No. Of course not. Just a little bunch of white people who don't like Colleen Nolan and have taken this as an opportunity to call her names.

She's mocking the eyes of Asian people, that is racism.
I have no idea who complained about it, it happened in 2015.

And now it's in serious debates, four years after the event, simply because people here don't tend to like her. If it really was a racist incident someone would have complained at the time, surely? And why is it never a person from the race being "ridiculed" who does the silly name calling? Probably because they understand the concept of the intention to insult, which there clearly wasn't here.

The term 'oriental' to describe people is typically seen as offensive and pulling back the skin around your eyes to 'look asian' is also incredibly insensitive.
It's pretty open and shut. At best she's completely ignorant but given her previous comments on homosexuality, I'm more inclined to believe she's just an well rounded bigot.
What a ridiculous over-reaction. This kind of thing minimises real cases of racism.

Where was I ageist babe? Clutching at straws are we?
You asked a question like "Who can honestly say they HAVEN'T sung racist songs and made slitty eyes for a laugh" and I simply replied that maybe it was acceptable in the olden times but certainly not now!

The point is, on lots of topics now today.
People do have to be careful of what they say.
What was acceptable decades ago is not now.
Saying something today no matter how harmlessly meant can get you into big problems.
If it's of another nationality or race.
You can near be branded racist, anti Semitic, or even of terrorist intention just on simple comments or who you may be looking at online as to organisations.
There used to be a figure on jam jars decades ago that is now banned.
Sadly, even commenting on a leader or government of a Country now can have you deemed as being against that whole Nation or people.
Whether we've all got too edgy or lost humour.
The fact is, it is easy to get into all sorts of difficulties now, for the slightest even throwaway comment.
Even as to things said probably decades ago too.
Then the likes of Nolan using her celebrity status to spout offensive rhetoric.
Doesn't help at all either.
Even worse she may get supported.

No it's not harassment and that's a ridiculous conclusion with respect.
People do get in trouble for loose talk.
Lose careers and are pilloried in the media too, when their full and proper identities are known.

I think the jo brand incident when you compare it to the danny baker incident as well as other things that I need to fact check first kind if shows that a debate is worthy wether or not certain things are seen as "isty" depending on the subject matter or who is saying the things.

For me I admit and hold my hands up.
I cannot stand Coleen Nolan.
Nor her Sister either.
They use their celebrity status to spout their prejudice, bigotry and hate.
I find it sad anything these Nolans say are even reported on.
To me she is someone I'd avoid like the plague.
Her 2 horrible spite filled times in CBB, also her Sister Linda.
Was more than enough to have to come across either of them.
I'm happy to express my total dislike for Coleen every chance I get.
Which would be just about every time she opens her mouth.
So I'm guilty as charged as to jumping at her because I can't stand her.

I'm disgusted by that video, it's just crude. Can't believe she did it on TV too! Most of her parents generation were racist as hell so of course it was okay for people of Colleen's age to pull on their eyes and say they looked "oriental" when they were younger but it's 2019 and our countries are way more diverse, we know better. Saying she looked "oriental" is like saying she looked "African" or "Mexican", it might sound harmless if you just hear that word but if you actually think of what it means then it has a darker undertone, it's not okay in this day and age.

Any excuse for some to have a snidey swipe reactions like this make the forum unhealthy and unfriendly but hey ho, nothing racist about it except for those who love to moan about everything and anything, we didn't even know what racist was then as it wasn't on our minds, maybe you should stop being ageist !!!
'Accuses someone of making snide comments, goes on a spree of insults in the process that makes this topic more 'unhealthy and unfriendly'*

Can't stand Gemma Collins so not sure whose arse you've pulled that conclusion out of.
I can't stand Gemma Collins either.
Both her and Nolan think they're important but both are awful examples of the worst kind as to celebrities.
Or people come to think that.
It's funny how people can't understand people not liking Nolan and her long list of prejudiced outbursts.
However, quite frankly it astounds me anyone would defend her.
Really mystifying, unless maybe they think as bad as she does.

I'm not defending her Joey , i'm not keen on the woman myself , but the outrage imo is a tad over the top , we've seen and heard much worse .

I've seen and heard too much from her as to her prejudices and looking down her nose at people most of the time, to last me a lifetime.
I can't stand the woman so any getting at her for her nasty bigoted prejudices, is fine by me.
Her foul mouth doesn't help either.
Never would I race to defend her, she's just awful.
Exactly as she was on CBB.
Having to put up with her twice on my favourite reality show ruined both series for me.
Crumbs, I can't even bear to the Nolan's screeching on their recordings.
They all seem as bad as each other.

we've seen and heard much worse .
How is this a relevant statement?
Charles Manson was worse than Ian Huntley, but a murderer is a murderer.

Never heard that “oriental” was racist
In fact i’m sure i’ve heard it used as a style of doing eye makeup before.
Seems like people looking to be offended again tbh.:umm2:

Yup, racist acts are racist acts, there isn't an 'acceptable' level of racism. If you pull your eyes back to imitate an asian person, whether you mean to be racist or not, is a racist thing and at best you're just incredibly ignorant but it doesn't change the fact that the act itself is racist.
Plus using the term oriental to describe asians on top of it all is just the icing on the ignorant cake.
