View Full Version : Where would you choose to have your holiday home?

Just idle fantasizing but imagine money was no object, where would you choose to have your holiday home? Or maybe two? I.e. your dream locations for repeated holidays.
Mine would be on the island of St. Martin's in the Isles of Scilly.
Granted, the Atlantic is not warm but everything else is perfect.
If I could buy a second holiday home it'd be on a medium-sized island in the South Pacific. Somewhere warm, with facilities like shops etc but off the beaten track.

Florida I think
Barbados is tempting though, never been but would love to.

Most likely somewhere Mediterranean... but then I've not had the luxury of visiting many places and can't name somewhere exotic and beautiful from first-hand experience. Only places I've been have been pretty much north/central Europe.
I think Croatia/Greece/Italy is a good shout though. Spain would probably be too hot for me.

Apart from the usual sea, sun and sand, I'd love to be able to watch a busy shipping lane. Sitting on the veranda, a telescope handy, identifying ships. Oop and have some lighthouses dotted around, sweeping the waters with their light beams at night

Even though I love the look and culture of countries like Italy, Mexico, and Japan. I'd probably want to have holiday homes in smaller countries so I'd probably go with Malta and Gibraltar and start up business in those countries.

Enough time to see the city centre. The Colosseum and surrounding area is my favourite. Naples has the best pizza!

I totally fell in love with Rome, Ness. Everyone was so friendly, the place itself is so beautiful…. and it wasn't anywhere near as expensive as we thought it was going to be. We stayed in the Sina Bernini in Piazza Barberini with an amazing view over toward the Vatican. And we kind of stumbled onto incredible things...we turned a corner and there was the Trevi Fountain! I really can't wait to go back.

we got caught just one, I think it was Piazza Navona but it was our own fault as we knew it would be expensive but we really just needed to sit and eat, just outside the city centre is fine, now Rome, I did like it but the traffic is crazy and you take your life in your hands crossing the road :fist:

There are many restaurants in Rome that aren't expensive. We went to one who was doing fixed price menus. It was excellent!

they have a different system in Rome. They don't stop until you actually start to cross, once you start everything is just fine, but you need to have nerves of steel to take that first step

omg we were in Lake Como last summer and I saw the most horrific accident. you know those metal barriers they have at the side of roads? well this car was actually skewered onto one of them right through the drivers side all the way through that car. I just hope that there was no children in the back seat, it was the worst thing I ever saw

I suppose it depends where you eat, but we ate out every night and apart from the rooftop restaurant at the hotel (which was crazy expensive but it was a special occasion) everywhere else seemed quite reasonable compared to, say, London.

I'd love to do an old fashioned grand tour of Italy
Like a month in every city of interest plus lakes, islands and volcanoes
I mean the Vatican alone needs a couple of weeks, then ancient Rome, renaissance Rome
