Halle Bailey cast as Ariel in 'Little Mermaid' live-action remake!

Chloe x Halle member Halle Bailey is ready to become part of Disney’s world.
The R&B singer has been tapped to play Ariel in Disney’s next live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.” Although director Rob Marshall has spent the last couple of months meeting with talent, insiders say Bailey has been a clear front runner from the beginning.
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” Marshall said in a statement.

Bailey is joining a cast that includes Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina, while Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula.
“The Little Mermaid” will incorporate original songs from the 1989 animated hit as well as new tunes from original composer Alan Menken and “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is also producing the film along with Marshall, Marc Platt and John DeLuca

A black Ariel is a pleasant surprise! She also has a great voice.

That said, it should be a drag queen in the role, since the character was moulded from one. Ginger Minj would be perfect - can act, sing, and has a distinctive voice (not sure Ursula being from the deep south would work but shush).

Sure if you call acting exactly the same in every single film a good actress. I don’t think she’s versatile enough to play Ursula. It’s just my opinion.

I learnt of chloe x Halle a couple of years ago from their YouTube covers it's nice to see how far they have come. I'm not bothered about a black ariel. But I am more fussed that ariels red hair is pretty iconic so they need to give her a wig

I was hoping for Zendaya tbh but I don't know anything about this actress to judge her.

I just hope to god that Melissa McCarthy doesn't play Ursula, it would be a travesty of a casting.

She's basically the female Adam Sandler, unlike him she's a good actress, yes but Ursula? No, McCarthy's far too bland for it.
