Thread title is a bit misleading - she didn't "dump him" there. Makes it sound like she drove him to the doorstep then took off. This was a protest and a good one.

Maybe the schools should be spending their money properly, besides they are not too bothered about kids education when they have Pds days etc.

Somehow I don't think hers is the only child affected by schools having to close early on Fridays. Your attitude is bizarre - she's literally directly involving herself in something that parents feel strongly about, but according to you she's "abusing power"? Makes no sense. She's demonstrating power.

Exactly right.
She is and she explained it on politics live today too.

However to some, she is a Labour MP.
So it will have nothing to do with the government's failure to ensure increases of funding per child in schools.
Which Teachers and education authorities have pointed out.
Which has been pointed out regularly on politics live too.

However being a Labour MP..
All she will do is suspect and wrong.

I admired her standing outside trying to debate with those protesters on the lgbt issue in the school in her constituency.

She's probably one of the harder working MPs actually.
Rather than criticise her, she should in my view, be supported on this issue too.

Schools should shut early on a friday...as should all work places. ..give families more time to relax together I'm not sure why that such a large contentious issue!

Yeah, I think schools and hospitals should all have a bottom-up approach to funding - nurses + HSAs + doctors and teachers + TAs and various other support staff should be the priority rather than pen-pushers.

Tbh I'm all for having kids spend more time with mum and dad, but that's what weekends are for :)

Did you not watch the video? The schools are not getting money to spend properly.

I think what you're trying to say is "You can't blame the government for anything" and when it comes to things the government is directly responsible for, it's a poor argument.

If it's down to mismanagement like Jess said what is the DfE doing about it because surely they should be getting rid of people who can't run the schools and replacing them? Or is it just a lie and they're not really being funded properly?

None of us really know though ,do we ? but we are happy just to lay the blame at the government, I would bet a lot of it is with mis-management, for example our local council have just had a major refurbishmentof their offices, they pay thousands for glossy calendars to be sent out every year, plus their glossy bumph that is distributed, their vans have paintings of Wallace and Gromit on the sides, but there are potholes, housing, grass verges alleyways, lighting etc that go neglected, that is not the govenments fault.

Jess would make a great Labour leader.

A couple of years back I had my doubts on that but now really have admired her determination to deal with difficult issues.

So I agree, she would.

A conviction politician determined to right wrongs.
Good one.

You can blame the government when the government is the one cutting funding to vital services and causing issues  There may be other problems too of course. But absolving the government of blame while they are cutting funding across the board is ridiculous.

I am not absolving them ,no doubt they play their part sometimes but to soley blame them is wrong imo, we hear so much about mis-management,it happens.

Of course. There are huge problems with a bunch of 'managers' or whatever in the NHS for example..all getting inflated salaries while being unneeded. And them being tied into contracts which basicaly make them pay hundreds for basic supplies (something which is apparently labours fault? Not something I have looked into as such but have seen it said a lot..labour did the contracts or something) but..these problems need sorted AND proper funding needs to be given IMO. While these problems exist, cutting funding will just make services worse. So, the government kind of needs to work with these organisations to reduce waste at the same time, if funding must be cut...not just chop away with no thoughts at all to how it will actually affect people. Help them lower unnecessary costs, then cut funding if its really required. IMO anyway, makes most sense.

I question how much funding cuts are actually needed though, while the government allow huge companies to get away with paying no tax..country would be rolling in it if there was more focus on stuff like that, but oddly, noone seems to care! Theres thousands and thousands of people investigating benefit fraud, for example, when benefit fraud loses the country pennies in reality. While theres a few hundred staff checking on tax fraud, when it literally costs billions. Priorities all wrong. As usual.

i would say she is exploiting a minor to make a political point. That said, the government needs to rapidly reverse its spending cut program
