I’m bored and just curious to find out people’s opinions on it.
Have you ever or considered smoking weed?
Do you regret doing so if you have?
How did it make you feel?
Do you know people or have friends that currently smoke it?
How do you feel about them and people in general doing it?
Do you think it could possibly lead to taking worser drugs?
Do you think it should be legalised in the UK?
I used to but I quit over 3 years ago, just one of those things where I was young and being stupid. I wouldn’t say I regret it totally either I mean obviously it’s not good health wise but me and my pals did have some laughs when we used to just chill and smoke.
To begin with I used to find it very relaxing but after a while it began to make me feel a bit depressed, kinda like I was wasting away so I stopped.
I know only a few people (some I’m surprised by) and a couple close friends that still do it. It doesn’t make me think any different of them or any other random person that does. I actually find drunk people more irritating than people who are a bit stoned.
Whether it should be legalised in the UK I’m not sure. I mean for medicinal purposes it could be very beneficial (especially those with illnesses where weed is quite effective). Recreational use I’m not so sure.

Have you ever or considered smoking weed? - Yes and I do probably a couple times a year at the least, went through a phase a few years back where it was a lot more tho nnnn
Do you regret doing so if you have? - No
How did it make you feel? - Great
Do you know people or have friends that currently smoke it? - Yes
How do you feel about them and people in general doing it? - Great
Do you think it should be legalised in the UK? - Definitely, slowly getting legalized in more and more states in the US :dazzler:
Alcohol is legalized, weed should be everywhere too when it's honestly not as bad for you and has less DUI-related effects and all that.

I'm all for it being legalised, there's study after study proving time and time again how amazingly beneficial it can be medically and how much less damaging it is long-term compared to alcohol.
That CBD Oil is honestly like magic when you watch videos of people with serious conditions like, for example, Parkinson's Disease getting instant relief from a couple of drops.

It is very beneficial for those who need it for medicinal purposes like Parkinson’s as you mentioned. I think in this sense it should be legalised. What are your thoughts about it in terms of recreational use LaLaLand? And have you ever tried it yourself?

I appreciate the honesty Jersey. I find alcohol to be worse than weed sometimes, I mean I work in retail (used to work the dreaded Saturday evening shift) and have been approached by people who are either drunk or stoned (or probably something else). The drunk ones are always loud or just being a bit of a nuisance (although not all are like that) but the stoners are always really chilled and polite most of the time.

Do you regret doing so if you have? Not at all, I'm really pleased that I've experienced it
How did it make you feel? It depends, I've had hallucinations before which I don't like but usually just more chilled out/tired
Do you know people or have friends that currently smoke it? Yes lots
How do you feel about them and people in general doing it? I don't mind, anyone can do whatever they want to do
Do you think it could possibly lead to taking worser drugs? Not really

Have you ever or considered smoking weed? - Yes, smoke it usually once every four months or so. Only ever socially though.
Do you regret doing so if you have? - No apart from once when I whiteyed :p
How did it make you feel? - Great (especially the ones in Amsterdam)
Do you know people or have friends that currently smoke it? - I’ve had a few friends in the past who smoked it on a daily basis.
How do you feel about them and people in general doing it? - it’s not really my life to interfere with, if they want to smoke weed regularly that’s their prerogative! They could be doing a lot worse though like taking coke daily etc.
Do you think it could possibly lead to taking worser drugs? - I don’t see how really, that’s like saying alcohol could lead to drug abuse.
Do you think it should be legalised in the UK? - Yes but heavily regulated like it is in The Netherlands.

Thank everyone for your opinions and honesty. I’m just trying to get an interesting debate going is all so I apologise if this came across as being a bit nosey or anything.
It seems to be a bit of a misconception that weed may possibly lead to harsher drugs. Previous studies have shown that their is no connection to the use of weed eventually leading to people taking more addictive and worser drugs.
I also believe that it would be a much better alternative than prescription drugs and other over the counter medications especially those who suffer from pain or things like insomnia. I mean are prescription drugs any worse? Some of the side effects can be pretty serious so would weed be a better substitute in this case?

I think this depends more on how much is being consumed. I mean you could smoke it every couple of days or so but if you were using very small amounts I don’t think it would have as much as a damaging effect. Plus the impact can vary by person, how often they have used weed, the strength of it and how often it has been since they have gotten high, among other things.

Weed is bad when it's abused & MIS used ! .
Also just because its a less harmful drug people still seem to think it's okay to smoke their brains out & get stoned :bored: .
Firstly Marijuana is NOT meant to be smoked ! . It's unhealthy for the brain and causes so many side effects.
For herbal and medical reasons it's meant to be boiled to either drink or bathe in .
And the cannabis oil can be used to rub on your body .
So I have ho problem with weed when it's used the right way for medical or health reasons.
But I do however hate when it's stinking out streets as it's smoked in tree quantities!! .
It smells like toxic waste :yuk: .
I've never considered smoking it & never will .
It should only be legalised in the right form & NOT for cigarettes to get people high.
Well like any drug people get addicted and it could lead to them taking more dangerous drugs, and they probably already do so.
But I would say the average weed smoker only takes that & maybe tobacco
And I think most of us have seen people we know smoke it , I always think " oh another pot head" .

But would you say it is any worse than alcohol GoldHeart? Yes Weed can be particularly bad when it is abused and it’s side effects again can be particularly worrying (things like paranoia etc.) but so can alcohol which doesn’t even have any medicinal purposes whatsoever.
I agree that the smell can be particularly off putting for people who live a cleaner lifestyle so the potential increase in stuff like second hand smoke could be a lot worse. I would also agree that if it were to be legalised it needs to be regulated (similar to Holland).
I disagree however that it could lead to taking other drugs. Most weed smokers I knew only either smoked cigarettes or weed. Some didn’t even drink they much preferred a joint as it was more relaxing. Now I’m not saying that everyone is like that but I find that using weed and it leading to worser drugs as a bit of a myth tbh.
And I think most of us have seen people we know smoke it , I always think " oh another pot head" . I tend to think this more about people who are drunk and just shouting about down the streets. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t want to come across as a boring bastard saying that but I find those sort of people a lot worse than stoners. I’ve encountered a lot of people that have been stoned and they have never raised an issue with me or anything like that. They have always been very chilled and non aggressive.
But I do respect your opinion on the matter GoldHeart.

I didn't say all weed smokers go onto dangerous drugs , I said the average weed smoker probably just takes weed & tobacco. But I think some of them will be taking other stuff .
Well the difference is 1 glass of wine or one can of cider isn't going to make you feel weird ,unless of course you can't have alcohol or teetotal & not use to it .
Obviously if abused then yes alcohol is damaging to your health , but I wouldn't compare it to cannabis . Except for yes both will make you sick / harm you if taken irresponsible .
Not all stoners are laid back though plus what about when booze & weed are mixed together then that's usually the yob chav behaviour .
Plus how do they know that it's just weed that they're smoking, theres been instances where allsorts of crap is mixed together. And people smoke it thinking it's just the standard weed.
Least if it was taken the right way medically then it will be tested etc & not given in a dusty bag or from some dodgy website

I smoked weed, and lots of it, for years. I rarely drank alcohol as together, they made me very nauseous. Most people I know don't mix the two. I think the "yob chav" behaviour quoted above is more people who mix coke and alcohol, as together they create cocaethylene which increases aggression etc.
I know loads of people who still get high regularly now. Lots of professional people, they use it rather than alcohol.
Definitely should be legalised

I've never considered using it or have myself.
At Uni obviously I had friends who used it.
I had and have no problem with anyone using it.
I'm happy being around friends or others using it.
In fact, even moreso I have come across individuals with cancer for whom using it, was the only thing that eased their pain.
It could lead possibly to harder drugs, depending on the individual but I'd say other factors may dictate that more.
Yes absolutely, I think it should be legalised.

Another thing that I wanted to ask (which I didn’t mention in the OP) has anyone here actually been taught about the dangers of drugs and the effects they can have on you when you were younger. I can’t recall being taught that much about drugs during my school days (there were probably posters and stuff like that but I hardly remember them) it wasn’t very comprehensive. I’d say I mostly learned through friends who had previously done it before.

Lol, anyone my age learned about drugs when Zammo got hooked.on smack in Grange Hill and the cast released the song "Just say no"
Drugs went back underground again really during the Rave years but then re-surfaced when Leah Betts died after taking an E and her parents released a pic of her in the hospital

I think it should be legalised but regulated for medicinal purposes and taxed. I really don't believe the hype in terms of how your average Joe can benefit from it, however. There are forms of cannabis that obviously do a lot of good, but personally I don't think everybody should have access to it.
I might be being overdramatic since I've had bad experiences smoking weed, but I just hate the casualness of it being a recreational drug.

This might sound like a daft question AnnieK but do you think this was effective in making young people stay away from drugs? There’s a lot of programs nowadays that use ‘drugs’ as a storyline but I wouldn’t say they are really effective a keeping people away from doing it.

It possibly did....you've got to remember that back in the 80s kids were much more sheltered. We had very little kids tv then and this was a ground breaking story for a kids show. It was played out pretty grittly (for then)and not glamourised at all and certainly it was the first I knew of it being talked about to kids. The only thing that was every mentioned at our school was when a trend for sniffing aerosols stated and they said anyone caught doing it would be expelled, not why just that.

I remember in secondary school they handed out booklets for us to keep with a full description of each drug and the dangers and how people take them etc.
I remember thinking how weird it was that LSD had pictures of Bart Simpson on:skull:, that always stuck in my head.
It was actually a detailed colourful booklet as it was informing people.
But i don't know if teachers knew kids had already tried drugs . Someone told me they tried magic mushrooms and probably other stuff.

This is the problem , Education isn't consistent for everyone and needs to improve regarding serious topics like this .
I actually found it useful the booklet as it was warning people and especially kids so maybe some would of thought twice before taking drugs. But those who either already took drugs or already tried it then i guess it wouldn't of made much difference to them.
I was never interested in weed or any drug , i was curious to learn more about them as in what they actually are and what they do to someone's mind and body.
But i never wanted to try it for myself and i never got peer pressured or anything silly like that . More interested in trying Alcohol .

Have you ever or considered smoking weed?
I did semi-regularly (once or twice a month) in my late teens through to 3rd year University.
Do you regret doing so if you have?
It wasn't a big part of my life so no
How did it make you feel?
I only ever SORT OF enjoyed it to be honest, it was fun enough socially but I cannot fathom why anyone would do it alone :umm2:. Though I'd say the same about alcohol.
The FINAL time I did it I had a bad experience where I ended up lay on my bed, mentally stone cold sober, but felt like I was spinning backwards head over heels for 20+ minutes. Utterly horrendous, like torture. I just wanted it to stop. It was enough for me to never do it again. Honestly, it was so different from past experiences that I strongly suspect it wasn't actually weed... one of my housemate's friends brought it over.
Do you know people or have friends that currently smoke it?
No I am an adult now guys.
How do you feel about them and people in general doing it?
I don't see any problem with it for late teens / early 20's during those "party / Uni" years, as an occasional recreational thing. Beyond that I'm going to be completely honest and say I find it pretty sad :umm2:. Also, daily / habitual use can't be described as anything but a major problem and anyone doing that should be seeking to stop. But again - same goes for anyone using alcohol daily.
Do you think it could possibly lead to taking worser drugs?
Most hard drugs users probably smoked weed first but correlation doesn't imply causation: I don't think it makes any difference. It's certainly no more of a "gateway drug" than alcohol.
The only issue is in availability really. Someone who is regularly smoking weed is in regular contact with a dealer, and most dealers sell more than one type of drug. Easy access to temptation. But not the drug itself, no.
Do you think it should be legalised in the UK?
I think it should be completely decriminalised but I certainly don't think it should be for sale highstreet retail or anything.

Have you ever or considered smoking weed?
I did drunk once but it was not pre meditated and iirc I think I thought it was a regular cigarette
Do you regret doing so if you have?
No because it was so brief and inconsequential
How did it make you feel?
Lord knows, I was already hammered
Do you know people or have friends that currently smoke it?
Yeah
How do you feel about them and people in general doing it?
Each to their own but having to smell that disgusting smell in public places grinds my gears
Do you think it could possibly lead to taking worser drugs?
Possibly
Do you think it should be legalised in the UK?
No purely on the basis of the SMELL
Have you ever or considered smoking weed?
Yes as a youngster
Do you regret doing so if you have?
No
How did it make you feel?
I remember staring at some polo mint shaped clouds, fascinated for several hours and jacobs cream crackers became food of the gods
Do you know people or have friends that currently smoke it?
No
How do you feel about them and people in general doing it?
Not fussed
Do you think it could possibly lead to taking worser drugs?
Not weed itself, its more the environment that taking drugs brings you to
Do you think it should be legalised in the UK?
Legalised and regulated
